The future of the global economy hangs in the balance.
Now McBride was talking about copyrights and IP here, but I think the global economy hangs in the balance more because of the conduct by companies like SCO (i.e. dishonest ones) than it does by the GPL.
Quote:"We are counsel to a group of companies that intend to file a lawsuit against you shortly for copyright infringement," according to a sample letter provided by the RIAA."
If I am going to get sued, what the hell is the point of sugercoating it with some warning?
Well, if car audio is your fancy, Alpine
has some $3,500 three-way speakers for 'ya. A little beyond my price range though;) . Of course, you can strike up a healthy debate as to whether or not speakers like this can justify their price.
The author of this post has just been issued a lawsuit by SCO. Apparently, SCO has claimed copyright to the word "poo." "Shit," "crap," and "dung" appear to be next on SCO's list.
This might be just me, but the apparent insecurity of these voting machines almost ensures courtroom nonsense and bickering. I could be wrong, and I hope so.
McBride: Good evening gentlemen. It appears that your pieces of your planet's core have belong to us. We demand complete control of your planet or else we will destroy you.
Linus: Where is your proof!
McBride: *Hands over bag of rocks and an arrowhead* Here 'ya go. Now hand it over!
The fact is most computer users DON'T know that a lot of the crap they download from the internet is ill-intentioned.
You have a good point. The average Slashdot reader is probably going to know enough to block popups and much of the other crap the 'net can spew at you. Unfortunately, the averge person does not read Slashdot or know how to protect themselves from all the garbage out there. These are the people spyware and popups hurt the most. The more the end-user is educated about this stuff, the sooner Bonzi Buddy will pack up his bananas and go home.
Nobody releases "perfect" software, or software with NO bugs, but that isn't the issue. What Microsoft is trying to do is forcibly lock people into using it's products, and forcing them to upgrade (through adding "features" or something that suddenly make your documents incompatable). Forcing people to follow you will not make them like you more than before, it will only make them look harder for better alternatives (assuming those people are smart).
Being from Venus, would that constitute being an illegal alien;) ?
But seriously, she seems to be more of a Green than anything else. I don't understand how she (or anyone) can go for state controlled health care and fiscal responsibility at the same time. There was also a good comment made on the wealthy giving to the Democrats. I agree with that; it seems that those who believe in "the common man vs. the rich" tend to be the rich and the powerful.

Ya know, I think SCO might have a point there . . .
Sounds like a Mikey Mouse operation here.
Does this mean SCO can't build it's Death Star?
If Santa writes you down as an "insensitive clod," do you get a lump of coal or a /. T-shirt?
A. "Agent Smith? Something you might be interested in . . . "
B. "I see. Would you classify yourself as l33t?"
C. "Really? Ya know, my PC has been acting really funny these days . . ."
D. "Shoot him, he has no life anyway."
NSA: "Sir, have you at any time read or posted to Slashdot."
Interviewee: "Well, yes, I have."
NSA: "Arrest this man."

Of what good are computers in the classroom if the enviroment (parents, ect.) is not conductive to learning?
No on at SCO believes they are important enough to need bodyguards. This is just anouther public relations ploy.
I would like to thank ESR for putting this book on the web, free of charge.

I have an old iMac (1st generation, bondi blue, pull out CD tray, etc.) running Yellow Dog Linux 3.0. A little dirty, but runs great!

What do you define as "essential" liberty?
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
*Begin ominous music . . . *

Now all we need is Linus to hop in his X-Wing to blow the fucker up ;).
Probably the same number of times Apple has : ).
Just my two cents (Ka-Ching!). . .
