    Ah. unrealistic minimum requirements are distinct from too high a requirement. Thanks for clarifying that.

    Well, just to clarify, they are.

    Unrealistic minimum system requirements would mean the publisher was requiring Aspyr get the game working on machine X that marketing had determined would cover enough of the population that the game would sell amount Y.
    Requiring too high end of a machine means that the developer doesn't feel the port is viable from a technology perspective.

    In terms of who holds the power and makes the decision, thats a HUGE difference.

    And that doesn't include ports that were released for the first time on a given platform...

    The article isnt about buying all the games that fit into one person's arbitrary definition of "good". Its a fair lament, but like so many internet rants, isnt going to change anything. Games come out in November and December because thats when everyone is out buying toys. It takes away a predictable bit of the enormous risk involved with making a AAA+ title. The same as tying it to a movie launch, etc. When (if) it stops working, then things will change.

    How long do you think it will take for Symantic, etc to file antitrust against microsoft. 6 months? 12 Months?

    How about not making it so easily vulnerable to viruses in the first place. This is like putting a band-aid on a arterial wound.


    To make a silly point, that would also put the AV people out of business, except they wouldn't get one last blaze of lawsuit before they went away.

    Of course there will still be the hacks that rely on social engineering...

    #2 Activision, THQ, Vivendi, and a host of studios both publisher owned and independent are located there.

    LA is the place to be in you are a video game maker who likes to buy all the talent, suck it dry as fast as possible and then fire that talent and start again. Whoa, did I just hear someone describe EA?

    I've heard of free as in beer and free as in speech, but I've never heard of free as in "many man hours to develop, promote and release a game demo." Interesting indeed.

    In fact, there are plenty of open source games out there that are very popular and have stood the test of time. That's a lot more than can be said for many of those commercial FPS's out there.

    When you make claims like this its helpful to provide examples. Its also interesting that you compare all of one groups games versus only once genre. Arguement, failing. Straws...are all...that...are left...to grasp...

    To start at the end, this is clearly a lie since you made a journal about me. Its a shame that you must resort to blatant lies in such an informal discussion.

    Now, as for my place in heaven...When did I ever state that I think there is a heaven? Religions do exist that do not hold such concepts. Once again, you show yourself to be speaking from ignorance. That's ok, I know its not your fault.

I have an interest in not forcing children how to think from an early age, brainwashing them, shall we say. which is my original point. teaching children one perspective which is skewed is going to do them harm.

    You quoted a bit about balance as a good arguement against religion. This means you have at least an "interest" in balance. I believe I was the first one to state that I have no interest in forcing anyone to do anything and am open to anything.

    I'm starting to worry about you spir0. How were you "harmed" spir0? You seem to be speaking from experience. Tell us about how you were damaged.

    Covers court costs and lawyers' fees. IANAL, but is that up front or if you win. Without debating the merits of this case, I would hate to think my taxes could possibly go to random lawsuits to pay random wacko's costs and fees whenever they want to accuse anyone of being a racketeer.

    As for your silly PS PS - I'm sorry that whatever religion you were exposed to purported to be presented in a balanced way, but don't let that prejudice your infantile mind. I don't think I ever indicated I was brought up in religion (I wasn't) or that I subscribe to any (I do), but I have been exposed and exposed myself to a variety of teachings and disciplines, secular and religious, and as you can see from our contrasting tones, am the better person for it. Also none of what I believe prevents me from believing in myself. Its becomeing increasingly clear you are speaking out of ignorance.

    See, when one is born they are born really sloshed. Thats why one cant walk and can talk only in slurred gibberish. As a young child sometimes one may say brilliant, innocent things that a sober adult would never say and may dare to create a work of art without fear of judgement.

    As one grows the buzz wears off. We become aware of our actions and how people will perceive them. This occurs at different rates for different people. Some will be totally sober before becoming a teenage and others have found ways to stall until very late in life. Personally I like to reintroduce alcohol into the system whenever possible.

    It sounds like you may be finally entering the hangover phase of your life. You'll have a headache for a while and there will be many questions about what you did and who you were with last night. This doesn't mean you did anything wrong, in fact you might find you liked it and still do.

    I recommend not thinking about it too much, whats done is done. If you want to keep playing, keep playing. There is enough time for work and still enough time for all different kinds of play in life. Oh and get drunk.

    "Overly zealous licensing terms?". Do you have proof of this or are you just assuming because Microsoft has to be the bad guy? Even though EA is the 900 pound gorilla of games that has already thrown its weight around the kill whole systems (Dreamcast, cough) and Microsoft is the new kid?

    Your own analogy about locks is the one which doesn't make sense, because your locksmith should not alreaedy be able to get in unless you are allowing him to keep an extra set of keys.

    #1 I provided no analogy, I merely extended yours.
    #2 If you read the subsequent post you would notice that the locksmith would likely have some keys, one of which would open the door.
    #3 A locksmith, in case you don't know, legally has tools at his disposal to open most any lock so he would not need the knowledge of the faulty lock to get access in the first place.

    Actually, you don't have to do anything. Show me an exploit that came out before the bug was announced and you might start to convince me. It is easy to show a number of devastating exploits that were developed AFTER the bug was made public. The proof is in the pudding, partner.

    You let your locksmith keep a copy of your keys?

    It wasnt my example, but in his since any key on earth could open my door I am quite confident a locksmith would have a key.

    If the affected population is "Windows users" then there is barely any difference between telling affected users and telling everyone, now is there? Oooh, I guess those phearsome Macintosh hackers won't know about the vulnerability so now we're safe.

    Actually if only the people that are at risk know, they have something called mutually assured destruction. This puts them on even footing. Its the ones who do not fall into this group that I would be concerned about.

    (Not that it was my flawed analogy in the first place.) =)

    If I find the locks on your house can be opened with ANY key, I'm going to tell you, not your locksmith (who will then fix them some day he gets when hearound to it.)

    Actually, feel free to tell me AND my locksmith (he installed the lock so he could already get in anyway), but you could please not tell the whole city? That's what publishing the flaw publicly does. Perhaps you do not mean what your own analogy implies?
