I have been reading about Sudo, since both Apple and Ubuntu ship their operating systems with Root disabled and Sudo installed as a security measure. Taking this further, couldn't Sudo also be used as a method to reduce the number of setUID binaries on a Unix system, or does Sudo represent a problem when used this way?
I remember reading a long time ago (before Panther was released) that Apple was going to transition Mac OS X from NetInfo to LDAP for management purposes. Does anyone know what progress has been made in this transition, especially with the release of Tiger?
So everything published in a public medium, by which I assume you mean the Internet, can be copied and distributed wholesale regardless of copyright ownership? Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on that, unless the author has specifically allowed reproduction of the work.
Microsoft will now sell software for Windows that is needed because Microsoft has problems creating secure software. How exactly does this help the consumer, who just wanted a good operating system to start with?

This is especially important since there are efforts to copyright databases and enforce those copyrights through the law.
I recently purchased a 20" Apple Cinema Display for my Mac. I loved the way images looked on it but reading text on it gave me headaches. I tried all of Mac OS X's aliasing options but to no avail.
I think that this is all part of Microsoft's DRM scheme. Maybe they want to make sure that that you understand that if you are using a computer running Windows, it is no longer "your" computer.
Some of the best comics I have I ever read were written by Moore. In particular, I enjoyed Watchmen and The Killing Joke. Sadly, he and Bill Sienkiewicz never finished Big Numbers (betcha no one remembers that book).
For those who didn't read the article, it should be pointed out that Moore never did want to return to working for DC, but ended up there after DC purchased the company who had him under contract.
I think Lucas was more concerned with getting the scene shot quickly than getting it done well. There probably wasn't a single retake due to poor acting.
Although I have always been an Intel man, the good words I keep hearing about AMD has me considering building my next system with a CPU from them. But frankly, I don't know anything about AMD.
Is there a website that spells everything out for newbies? I'm talking about information for all the different AMD chips and how they compare, socket types; the sort of thing. (The sites I have seen so far seem to assume that you are already knowledgable about AMD.)
"As a result, this produces people who, for instance, are certified for MS Exchange, but don't know much about SMTP -- they just know Exchange."
That is probably exactly what Microsoft wants.

I have no suggestions, but I do want to thank you for not being one of those jackasses who want to turn a beautiful Unix system into a Windows clone.

It doesn't, although there are people here who would like to think otherwise.
Even if it is true I don't think that they have a case. There is no requirement that Intel provide good results for a competitor's product.
""Swedish lawmakers have made downloading of copyrighted material illegal"
So you can't browse the web then, since everything you view on a web brower is technically downloaded?
Desktops, Bah! Just give me a nice window manager and someone who appreciated the eloquence of Unix.

Intel has shown a willingness to support anyone on their CPUs. They even invested in Be and Red Hat.
I think we need more proof than speculation.
For further information of this, see Apple V Microsoft.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Well, I think you could say GCC was written in an effort to change the world.
Assuming you are allowed to buy it without Windows, it should be cheaper, but only because Intel CPUs on such a massive scale.
Wasn't Vger actually Voyager 6?

"This is obviously an anti-Bush remark"
Or is it you looking for parallels to the movie in real life?
Software doesn't share movies, people do.

Great post. Obviously, some people have a problem with ethics.
So the wait for a year after Tiger was announced till the week it was to ship to complain. Sorry, not buying that one.
