    this is different to internet explorer how?

    at least with firefox I have confidence that it won't have total OS access, unlike IE where, for example, it can silently trigger arbitrary hard drive access just by clicking on a scrollbar (even with SP2) [finding the article about this example is left as an exercise for the reader/karma-whores].

    I am also confident that the patch will actually come in a reasonable time. yes it may be opinion and not fact, but it's still true that I have infinitely more faith in firefox than microsoft.

    isn't that a little bit dangerous as music CD players don't care about errors nearly as much as data CDs? hence one type of copy protection being to intentionally fuck the CD up so a computer can't read it but many CD players will.

    people making the point you made totally miss an important point. what if you don't want someone to know the data even exists?

    for example, sending a message to someone your government doesn't like:

    -you: "ha! it's encrypted really strongly! suck my balls!"
    -government: "we don't give a flying fuck - even talking to them is a crime. off to jail for you, numbnuts!"

    so what? just because it was a used in the past doesn't mean the original poster didn't have a point.

    it may have been used for some time, but it isn't so common now. recently there's been more focus on encrypting the data, not hiding where it is.

    the original poster was saying (AFAIK) that he thought it would be popular again, not popular for the fist time ever.

    I think he's right with regards to encrypting data in static, passively observed things like photos. transmitted data will probably use quantum techniques.

    count me as one of the people who gets about 1 spam every 10 days or so across 4 accounts.

    on a few occasions a message has been passed on marked spam. I can't comment on how much spam has been headed for me but filtered and not passed on.

    I don't agree that only some would hack. sure not all, but the concept of getting rid of DVD zones is very well established in the general (DVD-using) public's mind. I expect this to be similar - people will almost expect broadcast flag hacks as standard.

    exactly, since my iBook already has voice control and a gorgeous interface. if Apple gets Majel Barrat (sp?) to do voice over for Mac OS 11, then Star Trek will be real. 'cept for the spaceships and stuff.

    if you're going to be elitist about your show not being a cartoon, with the assumption that cartoons are "for kids", then I hope people continually deny your wishes and piss you off.

    before people like YOU started associating cartoons with kids stuff, they had a lot more respect. for example political cartoonists.

    you say "cartoon" doesn't do justice to anime. well I say fuck you - most anime doesn't do justice to the cartoons of old.

    get SideTrack and you can emulate 6 buttons and 2 scrollbars on your trackpad buy tapping/stroking different areas.

    I often use my 5-button mouse with my Mac. it's useful for stuff like having expose functions on the side buttons. but I'm very glad Apple still designs with one button in mind.

    it's kinda like bloat - if you give an MS designer a 10GHz CPU, they will find a way to use it up and pretty soon you'll need a 20GHz CPU for reasonable functionality.
