Well, things aren't bad at the moment here but I'm not optimistic; we have CD-R levies, which, even though they aren't particularly important are annyoing, but more importantly we've given the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) the power to arrest people without charging them, as long as they cite terrorism as a concern.

That's about as bad as it is at the moment though, unless you consider dealing with married pot-smoking lesbian hippies a problem ;).

The whole bit about MB or Mb is silly, and reasonable people can't be expected to differentiate between megabyte and megabit using a difference in case in one letter. Do you insist that kilobytes are 1000 bytes and kibibytes are 1024? You know damn well that you can't get 10Mb per second out of ADSL.. Anyway, my mistake, it's the Business class DSL that is listed as 1.5mbit..

Read, and you will see that there is no installation fee. If you want them to install it on your computer for you, (which if you read Slashdot I'm sure you don't need..) it is $50.

You do realize I am talking Canadian funds, right? That's what CDN$ means..

At current market rates, at your estimate of CDN$49/month, that is ~USD$35.50. The real price (no install fee) would be ~USD$32.50.

For Verizon DSL, it is only 768kbit service.
    It is USD$35.95.

And, at IGS you deal with somebody who KNOWS what they're doing at tech support.

    So, shut the hell up.

Unfortunately, this screwball frame rate causes real problems when you convert film to color video. Instead of simply duplicating every 4th frame (to expand 24 fps into 30fps) you have to add an extra rule to not duplicate every 1000th frame.

Funny, everything I've read says that they slow the film down to 23.976fps and then telecine to 29.97fps. Problem solved.

Also, (see parent) isn't is 59.94 fields per second? I'm assuming this was just a typo..

Red Hat has this problem too, though. Using it's Network Configuration tool to configure my dial-up connection, it worked, but for some reason I was expected to go into the Network Configuration tool everytime I wanted to dial-up. I went to use KPPP, but discovered it wasn't installed. Neither was wvdial. Nor anything else. I downloaded a wvdial rpm from another machine and installed it to get online.

What I would like to see in Mandrake's wizards are a better display control (offers little to no choice regarding resolution/refresh rate) and a font installer that make sense and works properly all the time.
