I find it disturbing that his office is looking for porn, they should be dealing with direct complaints rather than drumming up business, the act of downloading and possessing this stuff with intent is illegal already. That being said, if Time Warner's newsgroup service is going to be censored, stop using it; Comcast dropped the feeds access for the @home customers shortly after taking over (and don't tell me a 2GB per month giganews account is the same as having ISP provided) For anyone affected and still in the need of usenet access, get a giganews platinum (diamond?) account, the transactions are done via SSL and they're retention is 200 days. I pay an additional $30 USD monthly but its one of the few ISP services I have subscribed to where I feel I might be getting my money's worth.

I find it curious that when its paper and cloth burning it's an outrage but when its 0's and 1's filtering it is ok.

Censorship has taken on a new look but the intent is the same.

If not for Nintendo's amazing understanding of their audience the WII would not be able to compete, graphically, computationally its inferior, but that doesn't matter, its fun.

The XBOX360 would be a great system if not for the continual doubt as to the longevity of the hardware and the perpetual noise, also, Microsoft should be including a HDDVD-Rom capable drive in the mid and high end versions, it would be cheaper than that damned external $200 dollar optional 'player' and it would turn the box into the media center that Microsoft so desperately desires.

Sony should drop their bottom pricepoint to $300 but really, looking at the hardware specs and cost I don't see how.

having just gone through this procedure with a 4x250 (to 4x500) unit I can say that it works; heres how:
    1. resync the volume *before* starting, it will check the drives for consistant behaviour.
    2. replace the drives one at a time, i.e. pull one, put one in, wait for resync, repeat.
    3. after all drives are replaced the readynas will do a resync/volume check on its own.
    4. reboot and wait a somewhat long time for the volume to be resized.

any deviation from this and I suspect data loss is pretty certain, I would have tried placing the 250 you pulled back in first but can see how this could happen, reading the thread it would seem
that this happens when there are less than 4 active drives, did it happen on the resync before replacing the first drive (did you do this?) or during the resync for the first drive?

this does demonstrate the need for backups still, raid has its own unique set of problems, I use my readynas as a backup device, meaning I have more than one copy of the data housed there, for that
    purpose it is excellent.

    best regards.

Infrant has had some problems with WD disks dropping off as they have (by default) an intensive scrubber built it that runs every few days, this typically drops the
drive out of raid sets; this gets worse when you follow the recommended practice of matching your drives....This problem isn't infrant alone, WD has released a firmware
update for the drives as they tend to drop from any raid controller; I know this for fact as I am using the 'unsupported' ys drives right now in mine, after flashing them the drops stopped.

Their tech support (in the past) was great, they seem to have been on hold for the past year (netgear bought them, that tends to dampen response at least in the short term)
but I have seen a flurry of firmware updates recently (beta 4.0 code) NFS is much improved as they have moved to the 2.6 kernel.

sorry to hear your experience, several of my friends have these and we have all been very pleased with them, shame about netgreat buying them as it has driven the price up $100 or more.

  14. Evidence chain. on Best Buy Customer Gets Box Full of Bathroom Tiles Instead of Hard Drive · · Score: 1

Before switching careers mid life I worked for several retail establishments, including doing loss prevention major metropolitan district.

Bricks/Tiles do get placed into packages for return, I've seen a router box repacked with a ziplock bag of dirt, I've seen a Macintosh computer
returned with cinder blocks in it.

That being said someone mess up here, I've returned items to Best Buy, given that most of what I buy there amounts to storage and peripherals for my various toys I've
noticed that they at least give a momentary glimpse as to the contents of the box, serial number and/or model numbers are matched etc.

Recently I noticed that Best Buy also tags returned items with a 'license plate' (their name) tag that presumably tracks the life of that item from return to restock and subsequent resale.

Expensive small stock on shelves at Best Buy typically have those annoying wire alarm devices to prevent opening/repackaging instore.

    So given the above scenario:

    1. The drive was in the box when purchased and a fast one is being pulled on Best Buy, I applaud them for standing up to this as its a rare day indeed when it happens with the support of Corp.

    2. The drive wasn't in the box when purchased and this customer is getting the shaft, this leads to three other possibilities.
                a. The drive was swapped in store by an employee (this is more often the case than you would believe).
                b. The drive was swapped in store by a customer.
                c. The Box of tiles was swapped by a previous customer and returned.

OK, so given the 3 options A and C are most likely, B would be a why bother, not suggesting a thief is smart but the more time spent manipulating a package the better chance you have to get caught, replacing tiles in a box would have been done in comfort somewhere I imagine, a back stock room, a bath room, a house.

If it was secured by an alarm and swapped in store thats an employee,
If it was returned by a customer with tiles in box thats the fault of the customer, the customer service rep as they were unable to follow a very simple procedure
to insure this kind of thing doesn't happen. (license plate, model/serial check).

I have seen managers deal with this kind of problem in much the same way, tell the customer tough and reinforce the rules to avoid this again, why?

Managers are quite often held accountable for shrink (nice term, unaccounted for stock losses, assumed to be theft but sometimes just crappy accounting)
either for continued employ and/or bonuses, its these bonuses that lead to funny accounting, during a slow quarter a hard drive could make the difference during a busy one it amounts to almost nothing.

after saying this I have a couple of questions for the original poster:

    1. Was it a previous return at discount?
    2. Was it in a locked/cable wrap?

did you report this to the Police in your area? technically its fraud either way, either you misrepresented your return or the store misrepresented an item they sold you, if I put a Porsche emblem on a Honda and sell it as a Porsche, well, you get the picture.

Best of luck to you on this, if the local managers and Corp were willing to do this they believe (right or wrong) that they have a defensible position and that you will just 'go away'
