Software is essentially a manifestation of logic to solve a problem, so I would hope anyone programming has (at least) some idea about logic, computation, algorithms, computational complexity...
Speaking to Thinq, BT's Les King said that we're looking at 1.5Mb/sec for standard definition gaming, and 5Mb/sec for full 1080p HD resolution gaming. This will effectively rule out the use of the HD service in areas of the country that can only get a 2Mb/sec connection.
b) In Australia, Paypal is a financial institution. They need to obey some tough laws. Sucks to be in the US.:)
I wish this were the case in the UK; I had a dispute with Paypal in 2004 and they refused to accept they were providing a financial service...I'm surprised that this hasn't kicked off before, I'm sure at one point both the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and Watchdog* were investigating eBay/Paypal in the UK.
True - it seems I've fallen foul of the point I was trying to make!
The main problem is deliberate misinterpretation of the terminology e.g. "ape" and meaning Gorilla or chimp (or using them interchangeably); this weakens the argument.
You always have to be careful with the terminology used for describing evolution; in this case, saying that we "came from apes" can get you into trouble and weaken the argument.
We do, however, have a common ancestor and our closest relatives are (in order) chimpanzee, bonobo, Gorilla and then the Orangutan.
True, but it's a shame that this is the method of doing it (and then it folds).
Sadly for your example you can't imagine the drugs companies hearing of the open source initiatives and thinking 'shit, we'd better get our asses into gear, or they may do the same with our drugs!'.
Yes, quite: Programming is the start not the end: let's develop computational thinking and problem solving skills
What does Math have to do with programming?
Is that a serious comment?!

Errrr...2 is indeed strictly less than 5!
...Warren G...
Regulate!
Oh dear, saying that you'll blow up an airport (in jest or otherwise) may get you into trouble - see above article...
Fill in the blanks.
Quite right too! The burden of understanding, interpretation and clarity of fact is on the reader, definitely not the person who writes the post.
In fact, most Slashdot posts adhere to this rule: say anything and leave it up to the reader to make sense of it!
I have circumstantial evidence of someone trying to hack into an account of mine--they were unsuccessful.
Or they were very successful!
Q: Where did Saddam Hussein keep his CDs?
A: He didn't have any CDs, he legitimately purchased all of his music through iTunes and kept it on a (non-exploding) iPod!
...more breasts and less journalistic integrity...
This I can deal with, but IMHO the Daily Express has sadly too much of the latter rather than the former.
Ditto for the poisonous Daily Mail. At least the Daily Sport is upfront (no pun intended) about what it is...
I think it's more likely that these people speak better, more grammatically correct English than the average Brit or American.
Since when has the average person spoken grammatically correct British/American English? What about slang, regional vocabulary, accents?
I think it'd be hard for a native speaker to translate in a lot of cases e.g. north/south in the UK.
....Nuvvuagittuq?!
It's a stitch-up!

You know, when in Rome...

I dunno, this lawsuit has to come pretty close...
Mmmm, not the ol' dirty bomb myth again...
...but have they actually had the chance of using broadband to compare it to dial-up?
Definitely the case of 'once you've tried it, you'll never go back...'
...thats why muggings dont happen in America.
...STATUS SYMBOL!
Surely that was said in jest!
Seriously though, I bet Apple are loving this - how much more hype could you want! Let's all say it together....

Sad but true.
Nominal is such a great word....
10 mins to go, as of 9:51GMT...
Just in case anyone is interested (or still reading this article), I am in the process of developing a GCC front end for BCPL. Yes, crazy indeed.
Check out the Sourceforge project home page.
William H. Gates III?
Oh, on the other hand...
