Why doesn't somebody ( I'm far too apathetic) start up a web page for every stupid/intelligent, idiotic/clever, idea all the/. er's can think of, date the submissions, then anyone can claim prior art everytime a stupid, overbroad patent is applied for or needs contesting, I know its doing the patent officers job, but hey they sure aren't doing it! ( although EU patent offices are FAR better than the US's.... 'Oh you *are* a big company so you must know what your talking about attitude)
Interestingly marijuana was banned not because it was/is a drug, but because it comes from hemp, which was a competitor of cotton, so even then you can see buisness controlled the law!
If thats the basis of their arguments
1. How many ways can you say 'to maintain Compatability'
2. How many ways can you say I'm changing some names
3. and so on
all without sounding like an idiot, and remember geeks unlike lawyers prefer their words to be comprehensible, relativly unambiguous and above all to make sense! or to sum up ; calling a 'fish' a 'fish' does NOT mean I'm calling 'your fish' 'my fish'
In case anyone doesn't know, most 'cars' are built on only a few chassis' usually developed with co-operation between the large manufacturers, for example GM's medium size chassis is the basis for such diverse cars as the Astra in the UK and the SAAB from sweden, FORDS mondeo chassis is the basis, for amongst others, the x-type jag ( and will also be the basis of the new land rover freelander) these are designed with modularity in mind, the external bodywork all fitting to certain data points as are the suspension pick-up points and engine mounts, they are designed to allow for as much flexibility in the styling points (such as the interior and exterior panels) while standardising as much of the equipment as possible .
This article interested me in ipv6, so in true/. fashion I went off on a tangent and found ARIN's policy doc on ipv6 at http://www.arin.net/policy/ipv6_policy.html
if you scroll to section 4.1 you'll find an interesting paragraph, obviously for a range of numbers more or less infinite they have to find a way of overcharging and making them valuable.
Sorry can't patent this! too much prior art, this and a variant (step3 - buy or bankrupt originating company/inventor)have been used for years! you can't patent M$ofts buisness model......hang on has anybody checked?
Remind's me of the allegedly true story going the rounds
BAE systems in the UK developed a new test rig for testing plane windsceens , a chicken was fired at high velocity at the screen by a giant compressed air gun An american company involved in high speed train developement asked if they could use the design, three weeks later a frantic Email arrived at BAE saying the chicken went through the screen, through the bulkhead and embedded itself in the rear wall of the carriage, what should they do to improve their windsceen, the guy at BAE sent a one line email to them 'DEFOST THE CHICKEN'
I tend to think its true as something similar happened to me, I was involved in developing rat poisons, new novel chemicals/drugs are often sent off for evaluation as anti-cancer drugs or in this case to combat strokes (it was an anti-coagulent) the center replied that it was not effective as all the rats died at their standard testing dose DOH RTFM
OK, the question I'd like answered is
' where does your remit stop? ' usa only? internationally? or where? , and how do you define where a server/client is.
(very simplistically) in the E.U. when we enter into a contract we can choose which (european) states' law should apply to a contract. how would this affect your work?
Listened to a parlimentary(british) debate on iraq a few days ago, A british defence analyst was being questioned. and he talked with great distain of the american use of the description 'network-centric' comunications, as in Network - a group of linked distributed objects and Centric - something with a center, anyone notice a slight incompatability between these two definitions?
If you don't include chemicals, (as patentable) you don't include drugs, and you don't get new medicine's. I think you should just stick to excluding non-physical things!
p.s. On this, at least, I know what I'm talking about, having been involved with US/UK drug/chemical patents (admittably in the early '80's)
I'd like to patent the idea/process that all business models should make a profit, now can everone please send me my royalties. and Microsoft your royalties will be 99.9 %
