and took a copy just in case, love the bit about.... well if they want a system test we could do a batch file that prints out **** system test passed*** a true BOFH solution!
FBI News.... Gideons to be branded as terrorists, an FBI spokesdroid said yesterday. "...all these people sneaking into the hotel rooms of unsuspecting Americans and leaving subversive literature which anyone could read, possibly impressionable children and adults.... he later demanded that more powers be given to security organizations and in future all hotel rooms be searched along with their occupants every saturday night until the threat ended.....
WOW I'll never understand US business practices,.... someone 'sells' you a licence and then pays you for taking it , great business model, now how much is Bill going to give me for using XP? ( it won't be enough! )
I've a soltek frn2 board, I've been trying to get the net port on the board to work with Suse linux trying to ftp install it, a bit hard when the driver has to be downloaded and installed seperately! I've been doing a bit of investigation of the hardware and one of the strings that came up was 'xerox' I can't remember how I got it (I sort of gave up and bought a card) If I can reproduce it I'll post the string etc
Great Idea , especially the last point I love the idea of someone else paying for my music, can you imagine the chaos at card companies? Yes sir thats $2000 for downloads this month,... But i didn't d/l anything... yes you did.... no I didn't... yes you did.... prove it then!
My comment was based both on the London blackout and an article by an energy professional in one of the (uk) papers, about how, due to the structure of the grid, how its financed and the mix of energy suppliers (gas, oil, nuclear, wind and hydro)together with demand patterns, cuts would be likely in the future, possibly this year. Unfortunately I can't remember where I saw the piece So I only posted a quick comment (besides which I wanted to first post:-) )
Don't know if its the same in the US as the UK but here, if you are a line provider of some sort then you are not liable for what is carried on your lines ( c.f. the post office is not liable for whats in the mail) . However if you provide an 'Information Service' you are. So I hope the decision is upheld on appeal, otherwise the RIAA will have a new BIG target to go after in its attempt to castrate the internet.
It could be a great idea, useful and helpful, However, I suspect that (dons tin foil hat ) the powers that be (read: goverments/large corporations/ your choice of Overlord) will deem it far too unsafe to let the rest of us see whats ACTUALY happening, and will limit full access to those who can be trusted to tell the truth the 'correct' way,.... weapons of mass deception anyone?
Couldn't be clearer, obviously not written by a lawyer! basically it said ' Go forth and multiply SCO,we made a small mistake and corrected it ages ago' Nice to hear something clear and unambiguous for a change!
Model the destruction to the USA east coast that WILL happen when a large chunk of the Canaries falls into the sea, ( estimated to be sometime in the next few centuries ) now if the EU really wanted to 'influence' US policy a few studies like these, plus a bit of mining might do it..... conspiracy theorists take note!
But I loved the comment at the end of the New Scientist article ".... Most Windows users will run any old attachment you send them, so if you want to implicate someone you can just send them a Trojan.
says it all really, just have a ready to install trojan on your machine as a get out of jail free card
Simple maths --- $20 dollars for 1G of Music ~ $1 for 1G storage ~, essentially the drive would be free, but with music a 100G drive would cost about $2000 you got it the wrong way around, the RIAA should be giving away Hard Disks:)
Don't know about the law in the states, but can the Isp not ask the RIAAssholes for a reasonable fee for doing the work of identifying their customers? I know your ale to ask for compensation in the UK for copliance with the data protection laws ( such as they are:( )...... I suggest a fee to the RIAA of $10,000 per identified customer

Canada Immune From RIAA?

Well companies have been doing it for some time its called 'globalization'---- live in one state, Canada - for the free downloads, and Buy in a different one, the US for cheap CD's & CDR's---- but whats the betting that now people, rather than corporations can do it the loophole gets closed, incidentally, and maybe a bit offtopic, the UK used to be known by the car industry as 'Treasure Island' due to the high prices, now there is a sizable 'net industry importing cheap cars from the continent

definition of a bad law.... one thats ignored by a sizeable percentage of the population it applies too.... only thing that can be done about it.... repeal the law and write one that a majority will obey!
or more effective to never hire suits or lawyers who have ever been associated with SCO and to make this fact plain to them,...... but then.... there's probably a law against this.
All those crummy Licences/EULA's etc have been unenforceable here for years! we cannot give out rights away here even if we wanted too. Mind you there's no point in sueing here, you(and your lawyers, of course) generally don't make a sh*t load of cash. just the purchase price back
I paid for Win95 everything from then on has been a bug fix
Yes...... but remember M$ does not collect any personally identifying information, honest we don't ( this last statment is of course void should we feel like doing it anyway, and how about those bra and panties in your wash Sir? )

A recent report in the UK suggested the same thing ... but we're getting them after the US as usual :(

500 odd comments and not one mention of SCO (unless I missed one), whats going on?
I'm not concerned about this, I live in the middle of the UK :)
