Every time there's an article on supercomputers someone brings up clusters. As has been pointed out before, a cluster only works for easily parallelizable problems where you can divide your problem into many subproblems that can be divided amongst your nodes. This is not a problem with supercomputers as you have much faster communications amongst processors (ie they're not just cheaply connected with cat5 ethernet cable like beowolf) and thus you can solve problems on a supercomputer much faster in this case.
The second comment involved smashing an iphone, it was this desire for destruction that led me to believe you were anti-iphone. Most of the iphone haters seem to be also anti-apple in general, so I went with that.
Personally, as far-fetched as it is, I'm kind of hoping he wins. I'd like to be able to replace my own battery. Less downtime, etc...maybe I'm just a control freak?
If he wins the most that would happen is he would get a cash settlement. Apple will not redesign the Iphone. So I guess you'll just have to buy your phone someplace else.
disclaimer: I don't actually have or want an iPhone, I'm just making general statements.
Don't you see that the anti-hype you anti-apple folks keep spewing is just as integral to apple's marketing plan as the fact that the fans camp out for a phone?
The goal is to get as many people as possible to talk about your product. Whether or not what you say is good is irrelevant because as long as you mention it, more people would hear about it. This lawsuit (which will be thrown out of court hopefully) just feeds the publicity machine that you are so offended by.
school isn't (strictly) about job preparation; it's about education.
Where on earth did you get that idea? School is setup to make you learn to follow orders and be a good little worker bee so that you can take your place in society. They don't care about educating you.
Minidiscs were pretty much the coolest thing ever, as they allowed me to make "mix CD's" so that I wouldn't have to lug hundreds and hundreds of CD's from job to job.
I just thought it was funny that the people who fly into a frothing racist rage at any mention of India
I don't see many actual racist comments on slashdot that aren't modded down beneath everyone's threshold. Perhaps you are confusing resentment over one's job being lost to someone else with racism.
examples:
"Man, I lost my job to some guy in india. Now people I still know at the company complain about 12 hour delays in communications as well as overhead of having to do everything via emails with no face to face." = a complaint that is not racist
"Man, those pakis ought to go back to their mud shacks" = racist
The market for such programming exists and therefore you will be provided with channels that are free from the things you don't want, you don't need yet another law to bring that to you. Are things really that bad now?
I don't think he meant uneducated amateurs but rather people that have their PhD AND enough money to pursue their research without need of grants and such.
There is quite a large difference between allowing a little girl to hear the words "fuck off" and allowing people to have sex with her. You know you've lost the argument and now you're desperately trying to associate the other side with something as horrible as child sexual abuse in order to get the last word. It's lame and you know it.
But we need some sort of standards for the ones that are "free" and broadcast over the public airwaves (or "basic" cable). I have cable and child. When she's old enough to understand TV, what she watches will be monitored. It sure makes life easier if I know that the TV in her room with an antennae or basic cable won't be showing uncut Soprano or Sex in the City reruns.
See the problem is you say that your are going to monitor her and in the next breath you say that she has a tv in her room with an antennae or basic cable. Now both of those can't be true unless you sit in her room with her at all times.
``And why doesn't everyone use fluorescent lighting, since it's cheaper?''
That one, I don't have an answer to. Perhaps it is because fluorescent lamps have a higher initial cost than incandescent lamps?
the cheap fluorescent bulbs produce a lot of RFI. I'm a Ham and found that they often would wipe out HF and sometimes even make the AM broadcast band noisy. I picked up some more expensive 6500K daylight bulbs and that took care of the problem.
Well, I think I remember that his writer only wrote the lyrics and John came up with the music. So it was more a team effort I think.
But then who would take our lunch orders, pump our gas, and deliver our packages of electonics and porno rags?
Supercompters aren't going anywhere fast.
Well as for anti-iphone here are links to some negative posts you made on the last few iphone stories:

The iphone is not designed for them. They don't have to buy one.

If Dell is their biggest customer (likely) how could they stay in business selling to them at a loss?
Maybe he means bands that don't suck?
Uhh, you can make "mix CDs" on regular CDs too.
You only use your laptop every few months? Are you sure you couldn't do without it totally?

Seriously, they're YOUR KIDS that means YOU RAISE THEM not society. If you can't handle that responsibility you should have kept it in your pants.
Sometimes kids gotta learn the consequences of their actions. I'm glad this guy did what he did.

What if you didn't vote for the party in power?
Really? I've never had a problem and I've been using hotmail since before MS bought them. I never use IE and only use windows at work.
what problems did you run into? Sluggish loading, buttons not lined up?
Yeah, I found the same thing with VIA CPUs.
uhh, pot doesn't lead to those things either.
or some really good acid.
