when game companies were game companies. I hate Sony for releasing the Playstation, and I despise M$ for the XBox (and other obvious reasons). I think it's awful that those two compainies are not dependent for survival on the quality of the product.
Call me sentimental, but I feel as though the PS? and XBox have no substance, no charm, no soul. Nintendo and Sega have all those things for me. It's something that cannot be explained by logic or statistics.
Also, I know I can't be the only one who thinks that first-person shooters do not belong on consoles.
IIRC, power electronics deals with the regulation thereof. A good example is the creation of a power supply which turns AC into a smooth DC. Look here.
If you want wireless power, you need enormous Tesla coils, which will create a massive amount of noise pollution. Also, how do you control circuits when things like light bulbs automatically light up?
As far as stuff being forced on LA by the feds, drinking age was 18 until a couple years before I moved down here. Congress threatened to take away Fed highway money unless they changed it to 21. Shoulda come to college a couple of years sooner:-(
That was supposed to make you actually be 18 to get into bars, as opposed to 15. Too bad it didn't work. If you look even remotely mature, you can get into bars as young as 16. So too bad for you!:-P
Imagine what would have happened if they'd done this with Disney characters instead... WWDD?
They'd be C&D'ed within 48 hours of discovery.
That's why you put a disclaimer that prevents all representatives of Company X, Y, and Z (which includes lawyers) from continuing past the front page, and you claim what you are doing is parody, which is, IIRC, fair use.
To quote somebody who has done this: "I will spit in the eye of the eternal copyright.... Free speech does not protect me. The claim of parody is a flimsy tin shield before the hordes of bloodthirsty lawyers. Copyright law is an ever-shifting quicksand beneath my feet...."
This law will get precisely zero (0) significant coverage in-state. The legislature probably passed it to see if they could get some easy extra money for the budget. If push came to shove, they'd drop the issue. BTW, if you're 65 or over and are a victim, the offender must pay double. Check the notes on the law, in a link I posted earlier.
I've just taken chemistry for the past 2 years, so I should easily know these; but then again, we didn't concentrate on nuclear chemistry, 'cause "It Wasn't On The AP Exam(TM)." Stupid stoichiometry...
#4 is sorta correct. Something like plutonium-239 has a half-life of 2.411x10^4 years, but lawrencium-257 has one of 0.65 seconds.
As in the "Aurora," which supposedly could reach speeds of mach 6 (somebody correct me if I'm wrong)? It sounds like it; of course, I have not RTFA yet...
If you're going to have a supercomputer do one thing, of course specialize it. An Earth simulation surely has a set number of formulae whose calculations are to be optimized as much as possible, even to the hardware level.
But if you want a versitile, general-purpose supercomputer, why not go with the clustering solution?
Hmm... interesting.
I may want to upgrade them from "hate" to "rather dislike." They may yet have earned it.
OTOH, they did come up with Crash. And those commercials where he acts like an idiot in front of Nintendo HQ.
I think I'll call it a push and move on.

Public advocacy for U.S. member interests, and for women in engineering and ethics
I think I can speak for us all, when I say that I also advocate for women in engineering. Especially attractive ones.

u got me!!! plzplzplz dont take me to jail!!!
Oh, wait...
Stupid overactive imagination...
It's been updated three times since the last story about it...
that somebody mentioned DRM? It's gotten completely lost under the mountains of SCO crap. It seems like it's been months...
I guess we can only take one major stupidity at a time.
Can I hear it for the Subjunctive Secret Service? We don't care about the rest of grammar! Just don't confuse your moods! Otherwise, you DIE!!!!!!
Err... make that "being hypocritical"---it's almost the same thing.
Still, it's one more example of how technocracy will never come to be.
A politician lying! Oh dear!
</sarcasm>

Or am I trolling?
What two things go better together than Star Wars and sex?
Linux and sex. Duh.
Linus and sex. No wait---

I think this might be the text of the bill.
Isn't that an insult to Edwin Hubble? I don't think that he would have liked that very much...
windowsupdate.com is up for sale?
:(
Eh, probably not.

Maybe we should sign a treaty with SCO, so that we can have a hotline to Darl's office. It'll be just like Soviet Russia...
Think about it. SCO is essentially telling us "We will bury you!" every day. Of course, look what happened in the long run...
You still have two centuries to go...

It's too late for me to be reading /.
...wtf?...
This is how I read your post:
Uma Thurman... female... head.
I think I can speak for us all, when I say:
The sound you are hearing is the Ode to Joy midi bundled with Windows 95.
Or am I completely going insane? I know there was a midi file of Beethoven's somewhere in one of the Win9x's... wasn't there? AAAAARRGGGHHH!!!
It must be the thought of the midi that is sending me off the deep end. But what if they didn't exist? OH I'M SO CONFUSED!!!
