I still buy CDs and only import my music at Apple Lossless now days, before that it was 320 44KHz AAC. But if I ever decide to buy compressed music, I would go with Apple's lower quality since iTunes Music Store is so simple to use and hassle free. I can't say that about anything Real and personally can not stand any of their products.

If you buy a G5 without the extra RAM or HD upgrade, it costs less then a PC with similar components. Besides the video card, those upgrades can be purchased from another vendor.

And unless you're a retailer buying the mobos and CPUs in bulk, it will most likely cost more to buy those parts and assmemble you're own G5 then buying a G5 from Apple.

Err... A OSX Mac ships with a better software bundle then anything available for Windows or Linux. By the time you're done adding all of the little Apps to Linux to try and get it to do what an OSX Mac does out of the box, you've only wasted time and money just to fall short.

Overpriced, only if you're ignorant. Apple desktops use workstaion components. A G5 actually cost less then a similar Opteron at this time and that's a pieced together PC.. If you want to compare a PC to a Mac, you'll need to start with things like Tyan mobos.

For what you get, performance and software bundle. The Apple has a bettter deal then any PC available. You really are ignorent about the Mac and probably have never used or owned one. And if you did use one, it was probably about 4 or 5 years ago.

"No reason to pay Apples price." For freak sake, educate your ignorance. Good luck showing you parents or their grandparent how to use Linux. If I wanted my partent to take a big step backwards and frurstrate the freak out of them in the proccess, I would take away their iBook and put them on a PC notebook running Linx. That would be stupid and I respect my parents. So the answer would be no.

Your missing a few. Your comments had truth back in the late ninties before OSX, but now they're outdated.

4.) Macs are the best general use computer for the majority of us.

5.) The software that ships with a OSX Macintosh is much better then anything available for the PC. iLife is a perfect example.
    http://www.apple.com/software/

6.) An OSX Mac requires less user maintenance then a XP PC.

7.) Macs have super fast GUIs. An iBook wtih a R9200 feels faster then even an overclocked P4 wtih a the fastest video card money can buy. Why, because OSX uses the GPU to render all GUI windows. This gives the Mac's 32-bit GUI windows that display at blazing speed. When Longhorn comes out, you PC peeps will experience this. And Nvidia's GUI effects on the PC are not the same and don't even come close.

8.) Multimedia playback/authoring. No buts about it, This is better on any OSX Mac out of the box. Your PC will require lot's of freeware and purchased apps just to fall short of what every new Mac includes and can do. This includes, DVD playback, importing Photos, movies, etc... The only thing even close on the PC is iTunes. =)

9.) OSX. What can I say, in comparison it makes my XP PC archaic and unreliable. Nothing against my PC's hardware, just it's OS.

10.) Shotcut keys galore. There are soooo many things I can control via the keyboard with my Macs, that on the PC are only accesible by a mouse. Plus there are so many more things that the Mac Gui can do when it comes to overall control and navigation that can't be done on a PC. For example, close all windows with a keystroke and that's only one of many. =)

    12. ) Exposé simply amazing. This not only looks cool, but it's extremely usefull. Especially when running lot's of apps. This is the best thing to happen to Photoshop since the "scroll wheel" for the layers pallet.

    13. ) All the above is possible because Apple makes both the hardware and software. Integration is goooood. Non-standard cheeseball software baaad.

Price. Compare a 64bit Opteron with the same specs as a G5, proc, mobo memory config and so on. You'll see that the Apple cost less. Compare an iBook to a similar priced PC notebook. It's a better deal, when it comes to proc performance, vid card and of course included software. Macs use the same memory and HDs as a PC, so no need to buy those directly from Apple, that would be expensive. =)

Corporate apps. Do you mean Office.=) Macs have had that for years. And when I do on site work with my PC clients, my PB seamlessy integrates into their network and is fully compatible with any file format they throw at me.

Freeware. There's more then enough for OSX. But unlike a XP PC, OSX already ships with lots of great utilities and apps. I haven't needed to rely on Freeware, where as I do for my XP PC and Macs in the past to get certain tasks done.

Games. The gap is there, but only by time. I own a PC mainly for LAN parties, since there's always one new game that's not on the Mac. But for the most part, the games we play like WC3, UT2004 are available for both systems. I'm not into packing up my desktop Mac and bringing it to my friend's garage to play games, since it's my primary source of income. But I will bring my PB when we only play WC3 mods.

If you want a digital music player that only favors Attrac and makes any other digital format a pain in the arse to deal with, then go with the Sony. The best part is checking in and out your own music.

Sony will not suceed in this area until they can settle their internal disputes. They should probably spend more time on their interface software then they do on their style. Sony really does not have a clue about the whole digital music and their products are suffering because of that.

I honestly don't know why anyone that owns a PC, would want to play Doom 3, or Half-Life 2 on a Xbox with a game controller. I wonder what type of voodoo magic they're using to get OGL Doom onto a DX8 Xbox? If they released a keyboard and mouse for the XB, then I guess it would be an OK cheap lo-rez alternative to a PC.

Nintendo admitted that they should have included a DVD Player. They also, mentioned that the initial Indigo color wasn't a good choice. =) but I agree with the previous post, that it is a game machine and a great one at that. it's not missing anything.

The one thing that I don't like about the Xbox, is that it was not initially intended to be a game machine. MS wanted a Settop TV Box, so that they could weasel their way into our living rooms. But when they found out that developers were not interested in it, they basically repackaged it and called it a game machine. It's a buggy system, that carries over some of the traits from it's Big PC brother. Before the Xbox, I had never known of a game console requiring a patch. I think that the Xbox2 that's coming out in a year or so will be a good machine though, since MS has set out to create it as a game machine from day one and now have some experience.

The GameCube IMO, is currently the best game console. It really isn't lacking anything right now. The smaller DVDs are easy to carry, offer really fast load time. I was amazed at how slow the HD actually is on the Xbox. And like mentioned in another post, it's helping Nintendo fight piracy, something that is plaguing the XBox and PS2. From that stand point, I think it was an excellent choice on their part.

I also like the fact, that the games available only for GameCube are of great quality. The Xbox mainly has quantity, lot's of bad PC ports that were horrible on the PC and only worse with game controler and lo-rez screen. I also appreciate the quality of the GC over the XBox, my friends first rev slows down big time during Halo, making it almost unplayable at the end, where as my other friends does not.

The GameBoy player attachment is also a great addition. I like the fact that I can play my GB, GC and GBA games on my TV through the GC when I'm at home. Plus using the GC controller is a pleasant relief from the tiny GBA controls.

I've rambled enough, I just have no respect for the Xbox, it's a work in progress for MS and needs to be replaced. Halo took longer to get to my PC, but the high-rez screen and keyboard/mouse controls make it 10 times better as is true for games like "Knights of the Old Repulic."

    O.O

Definately the GameCube, like already mentioned, Zelda and Metroid Prime are GC only. Two of the best games currently available. Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Party are also excellent group games, the Xbox and PS2 have nothing even close to these when it comes to group fun factor. The games that are good on the XBox, are much better on the PC, IMHO.

The GameCube also has the fastest load times. There is very little wait, unlike the Xbox and PS2, which are quite slow in comparison.

Unless I've been out of touch, doesn't the Xbox still require an additional remote purchase to play DVDs?

Besides, a good DVD player isn't even a $100 now days. If the Xbox breaks, one is out of a game system and DVD player.

The G5 just came out last summer, not even a year ago; How is that a long time? Besides, new hardware is coming out this month. And they should be using the 90nm chips, so even if Apple lowered the clock speed on these G5s, they would be faster. If Apple doesn't offer a 3Ghz by this summer, then it will have only been more B.S from SJ, but I've grown to expect that from him. But there's still time, so I can personaly wait. Besides, my current Mac's have plenty of power, so there's no rush for me to upgrade. And Like you said, these machines are not slow and with two OS upgrades already, they have only got faster. For me, that has been more welcome then another speed bump.

I was burned in the passed also, but that was because of my ignorance. I have a freind who is waiting to upgrade and will after he sees what is released this week. He'll do as you described. Like you, he's just begin a smart consumer.

I'm seeing OSX from a different perspective. In the passed 6 months, I've had more PC friends switch to the Mac then I've known of in the passed 6 years. I won't keep my fingers crossed, but I think that percentage number has changed quite a bit. And for people who tried to use OSX as their primary OS in the begining, it only takes a little bit of common sense to know that it was a new and like all new operating sytems would need time to get the crinks worked out and the much needed software support. This is why OS9 was still pre-installed, it was the crutch that OSX needed to get on it's feet. But for new users, since Jaguar, OSX has been a great OS. I feel for early adopters of XP 64-bit and in the future Longhorn, the PCs OSX. =)
