Why couldn't you do a scheme like a giant ski lift? You could just load the down cars with space junk as counterweight. Also the power could be efficiently collected at the top point with solar equipment.
As the parent points out, that wasn't because of money though. He had a *terrible* media campaign, and should have realized that the internet supporters were only a launching point that had reached the limit of what they could do. At that point he should have refocused on TV ads etc. for normal people, and Iowans. Ah but it's a moot point now.
You have no idea what you're talking about re: mutations. They are very, very numerous and common. http://www.iscr.ed.ac.uk/mecp2/mutations.php (random result of web search. First one I looked at.)
And, how does one underestimate a fact? More like, never underestimate people's ignorance about biology.
But do they suck because they didn't have more openess during thier product development phase?
Probably, yes. Perhaps they would have found out that the demand wasn't there a lot sooner if they had gotten some product out sooner, without the fanfare. Then, they could have used their technology to create a better version of something people actually wanted. I think it's pretty clear that their whole attitude worked against them. They should have emphasized the impracticality, not denied it and looked like fools.
It would be very helpful if someone could tell me, can you specify a folder for incoming attachments? And, are they then independent of the original message (ie not deleted if the message is)?
I am using Eudora for this reason, plus I have been turned off by Outlook Express, which seemed to handle attachments horribly.
Can a retailer, say Joe's Electronics, use a domain like sonytvs.com? Or, say, ibm-computers.com?
The retailer is not really pretending to be sony or ibm, but it could be interpreted as confusing perhaps. So I would think the manufacturer with a trademarked name could restrict some variations?
I think grandparent explained it. People are into it the way it is. It just works that way. Why is there a "reserve price"? All it does is waste people's(bidders) time, but people still use it. People aren't rational.
I prefer NM flex conduit (blue corrugated stuff at home depot). I ran 3/4" which just snaps to a male adapter which snaps to single or double mud rings, all plastic. This is for low-voltage only I'm sure, but very fast and easy, and should be less $ than pipe (I assume you mean rigid conduit)
1" would be nicer but you will have to locate it at an elec supply house I think.
let's say you are selling a $1000 item, and someone who signed up yesterday bids on the item, turns out to be a fraud, and disappears. No problem really, that's between me and them and I can smell them a mile away, **except ebay sends you a bill for the "final value fee"**. Do I have time to go through the automated approach to getting that back? No.
"We already make much more food than we need due to advancing agricultural technology."
I agree we make more pop-tarts (tm) and big macs (tm) than we need, but the US is becoming a net importer of food, although only in dollar terms, so your statement is not disproven in caloric terms:
I agree with your description of the noble purpose of the thing we call PC. But, there's a difference between "everyone should have the same opportunity to be best at something" and "everyone should be paid as if they were really good at something even if they suck at it". At some point we have to incentivize things and PC gets in the way of an efficient market.
Yes there are toxic by-products, but I think the amounts are small and manageable. I should have a cite too but I don't.
Also it is worth mentioning that the aluminum frames can be done away with completely.
The main impact is energy use for smelting. But there are improvements being made to the process.
Not if technology changes quickly. Then you have (maybe) a $1 bill dollars [sp] white elephant vs. a population of devices which turn over rapidly, naturally.
It's really just a question of what works. Obviously we have both and should continue to have both.
Someone trots this out EVERY time there is a solar story on slashdot, with nary a cite. Because it's false. Not even close. Let me guess - you read this on Tech Central Station or heard it on Fox news.
SOME cells, in particular Gallium Arsenide crystals and other experimental films have this issue, and it's serious. But these cells are only used for outer space and efficiency record breaking. The normal type of cells use mostly silicon and glass and aluminum and tedlar. Not very toxic. And there is a large incentive to make them use less and less material overall, therefore reducing waste and embodied energy, so this is being pursued.
whether the quantum dots and plastic of this topic fall into the clean or dirty category I have no idea. But then, it's not a commercial product yet.
I couldn't agree more. People with a real need to communicate information often are not yet using a CMS.
And the people that DO use them are usually just selling adsense.:?:
I do feel that HTML should be tought to everyone at about the high school level though. I realize younger kids can learn it so that should be an option as well - a course a student must take, at the students choice of time between 4th grade and graduation.
NOT "Website Design 101" but "HTML 101".

Don't let the facts get in the way...

I have to say Rasmus' book rocks for understanding quotes and strings, aka interpolation iirc. For me it was a great investment.
In reality, uploads suck. Worse than dialup, possibly due to latency as I wasn't just doing single files. But it does work, and downloads are fast.

these guys had them last time I looked in their print catalog.

Yes we all know a $300 check guarantees a quality site.

That's $1 per watt, which is the holy grail of renewable energy technologies, being the approximate cost of conventional power plants.
possible, but a lot of energy is lost to heat in a compressor.
