    What percentage of Linux/Windows users actually *build* their
    PC's from scratch? These guys wouldn't show in sales figures.

    Since apple hardware is proprietry, Mac users don't have the
    opportunity/freedom to roll their own custom platform.

    I think the only *thing* these surveys show is that 'Market Research' is basicly a load of old bollocks. In a recent survey of mine I found that you can bullshit 100% of the suckers 100% of the time.

    This reminds me of the VIPER Microprocessor project. The goal was to produce a design for a processor for use in critical applications that could be mathematically verified as being bug free. I seem to recall someone proving that such a goal was impossible.

    Technical people don't actually *have* a sense of humor.

    I discovered proof of this when I read the JOKES file
    that came with my copy of GNU/Emacs. :)

    Of course the problem of the internet has been with us since
    classical times, as this dialogue shows.

    As far as movie addiction goes, I don't see people camping for two weeks at the porn shop for the next blockbuster to come out, the way they do for Star Wars.

    Mail order and downloading.

    Also I can imagine people getting camp for the Rocky Horror Picture Show but Star Wars nah.

    IMHO Shaving Ryans Privates is a far far better film than the other one. ;-)

    it seems that there are a ton of porn movies released all the time. Such a bulk of low quality limited distribution titles limits illegal trading.

    Replace porn movies with albums in the above.

    Also remember this is /. you can bet if a porn movie is out there it *will* be found.

    I think you'll find that the majority of CCTV systems are in fact *still* owned and operated by private corporations and individuals. Governments were by and large fairly slow on the uptake (pre 9/11) due to cost and *political* reasons.
