As a programmer, the thing I hate the most is having to redo code over again due to poor specs or bad design docs. Make sure they are organized and have the correct specifications.
First of all, the money Gates is so charitably donating, is money he acquired from an illegal monopoly, so it is reasonable to follow where it is going.
This is not RMS' argument. His argument is that the charity invests some of their money into companies like oil plants which pollute the air, see this article.
If you're going to defend RMS, at least get it right.
From the article:
Monica Harrington, a senior policy officer at the foundation, said the investment managers had one goal: returns "that will allow for the continued funding of foundation programs and grant making." Bill and Melinda Gates require the managers to keep a highly diversified portfolio, but make no specific directives.
I don't think they're specifically looking for investment in oil and gas companies, this just happened to be one of their investments (I'm not saying that it's OK, but RMS can blow things way out of proportion).
nope, microsoft is not happy. now it will be clearly visible to Dell's customers that if they want to put on a MS OS, it will cost more. currently this is included in the cost of the system.
OTOH, Dell could just keep the cost the same and pocket the difference if their customers choose Linux.
The article isn't very clear. It could be just microsoft.com (although I doubt it), or maybe all microsoft-owned sites: msn.ca, hotmail.com, etc. Also, does google include gmail?
These statistics don't explain much, other than Google is rising in the ranks.
I tried going to Thunderbird a few years ago. I couldn't make the switch because the Thunderbird search wasn't as good as the Eudora search and Thunderbird couldn't do simple things like sort search result dates in "date order". Maybe it's better now...guess I'll find out one way or another.
it seems like too many people here are judging him because he whizzed through university, yet nobody actually knows anything about him. don't judge him based on this alone, you may be completely wrong.
i can't see any disadvantage to this, they're only adding loudspeakers to already existing CCTV cameras. they're not breaching your privacy anymore than before
your defending slashdot like they knew it was already posted:) usually they would link back to the original slashdot story, in this case they didn't know about it.
lucky for slashdot, people put up with dupes (even though they complain all the time)
Yep. I have the upmost respect for him, I could never get into that much danger. Luckily computer parts don't have sharp claws. Imagine upgrading your video card: "Isn't she a beauty, a brand new nVidia 78... Crikey! the fucker bit me!"
No. It's not. It's radio that allows you to get additional info about the song. I agree it's not the most advanced piece of technology, but you can't just simplify it as being 'TV'.
It's also interactive, while TV is just streaming.
India has always been a censoring country (although not as much as China). Usually, anything sexually obscene, or anything else considered highly controversial with the general population will be censored/banned (ie, movies such as 'Water').
However, censoring blog sites is a step down, why would they do this? "The list [of censored sites] is confidential and I can't make it public" It seems like they are trying to push some sort of hidden agenda.
Here's something I never got: why isn't sourceforge free and open source itself? It seems like it should be.
They have operating costs, my guess is they have pay for this somehow, perhaps advertising isn't enough. (and the last i checked, VA Software definitely isn't the most profitable company out there)
it's amazing how many people say they are 'fans' of one brand of the other, not talking about you, but many people haven't even used the other because they've always been fans.
they have a brand, say it works fine, and call themselves 'fans', i find it interesting.
when i buy a card, i take a look at both ATI and NVIDIA, find the price range i want, and after going through reviews, buy the one that has the best FPS/$

Apparently, this isn't NP-complete. There is an algorithm that can solve this in O(n) time, see here: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/KnightsTour.html
This will save a LOT of time for larger boards. Try to implement this.
Usually laptop hard drives are relatively slow. Quite often even if you have plenty of ram it will still run slow because of a slow hard drive.
Nevertheless, I would recommend 4GB for Vista.

Just an FYI, it can definitely do that now.

what you are talking about is crime to humanity, not crime as in disobeying the law. too bad both of those don't coincide (at least not in the US).

Hint, hint: RTFA
for those who don't know though, you can find this (and other) info on the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros.

just so you can see how retarded the US patent system is, see this santa hat patent
it seems to me that the purpose of the USPTO is not to grant patents but to make money from applications etc
i could probably patent my ass if i tried to
It looks awwwfully familiar.
to what? i couldn't figure it out.
