Mods, give this guy a boost. This is exactly what's going on here. They're hedging. They either create a secure OS with no exploits for unintended spyware installations and make money or buy a company that temporarily solves the problem and make money.
Yeah, but they found 44 specific holes. More importantly, the developers won't have to get permission from their boss take a break from developing a new feature to fix these.
And this is how this driver war will be one. If people continue to research and only buy hardware they know will work fine on Linux, then the companies that don't support will see a decline in their market share. This is when the PHB asks the developers why this might be. They explain how linux might be a factor and to shift resources supporting it.
That's an insane idea. First of all, it's brutal and punitive. And going near a computer isn't a violation of the probation, using one is. What happens when he walks into any office building? A doctor's office or a dentist's office? He gets a shock?
Alright, I know it's not free. But if he's thinking of being an engineer, it will help him to know how to use this program. Lots of my classes require it (computer engineering) and knowing it before he enters the class would help him.
I have a canon i850. It prints the photos well on the good paper. However, the ink fades quickly. I'm sure we're using the same inks, so has this happened to you?
Parent brings up a good point though. Paypal money really is monopoly money. It's not guaranteed by the FDIC. I read somewhere a while back, maybe on/., how people's money is spread out amongst many regular bank accounts. If they went belly up, would customers lose their money. I think the only guarantee they can give is by faith, but not legally backed.
Then the guy ran back to his house, huffing and puffing and out of breath. When his girlfriend asked where the stolen TV was, he replied, "I...think...I...saw a ghost"
I go to the college of new jersey and they recently switched to thunderbird. It would have made more sense to me to also switch to firefox since their internal sites work fine with it. They use windows 2000 on all of their machines so they're pretty stable. The students' machines are really the ones bogged down with spyware
This reminds me of Jetsons. I remember watching an episode that had robots playing football when I was a kid. Didn't understand it then, but I understand it now. Sports are all about generating revenue and hype. Look at the Super Bowl halftime. Nobody watches it for the game, it's all about the glitz. The comedian Lewis Black did a very funny and insightful review of the last halftime on his "End of the Universe" album
I doubt AOL logs the billions of messages sent each day. I use AIM using Gaim because everyone I know uses it. And none of them care about SSL/TLS encryption. AOL's got the youth market, and it's going to take a lot to lose it.
Waiting on line is a problem that shouldn't be solved with glitzy ads. My goal of the checkout line is to get through as soon as possible because I'm done shopping. In store displays should be on the sales floor so I can see them while I'm looking for products to buy.
When I decide where to shop, I consider things such as products, prices, location, convenience, and customer service. I don't care about their checkout counters.
So why should a store care about spending money on fancy POS points? I worked in a store during high school that used a DOS POS/inventory program and it worked fine. This is a case where the simplest way to get the job done is usually the best.
I agree. When I decided to make the switch to Linux, I figured I'd start with something easy. Mandrake 10 was easy to install, but everything else was a pain in the ass. I switched to gentoo about a month later and I'm very happy with it. The installation is long and tedious, but not difficult. Comparing URPMI to portage is comparing night and day. Portage is worlds better.
I think newbies thinking Mandrake is the way to go will be disappointed with linux
I think the negative feeling comes from people touting the GIMP as if it is just as good and sometimes better than Photoshop. This usually comes from people who lightly use both in their spare time.
The GIMP is not as good as Photoshop. The interface is difficult and there are many professional features it lacks that Photoshop has. Then again, it's free. So you get what you pay for.
If you're a professional, you probably will have a better experience with Photoshop. And if you're a professional, the high cost of Photoshop is very justified.

I know. It's like saying: So basicly Microsoft released a rebranded Wordperfect. Things like this happen. And I hate it too.
What happened to being original? Jeeeez!

I printed out some images taped them to the wall (dorm) and within a few months, they turned magenta.

MOD DOWN! Politically incorrect.
It's now "Festive Greetings"

When I worked as an intern for the DOD over the summer at a base in NJ, no classified computer was allowed to be connected to the internet.
Yeah, but this one comes with an extra large fortune cookie.
Proprietary servers?

How about 1048 hours free of Yanni?

I just hope there was a clause in the contract that prevented them from using "TinkPad"
This guy is a troll. He posts some obvious links and finally the goatse guy.
I see the bright dot in all of the pictures. I think it's a light on the bridge. The pole is so thin, however, it's hard to see.
I prefer capacities in megabytes compared to pounds of x number of elephants standing on top of each other.
Look in the spec sheet, POEPMB (pounds of elephants per megabyte), it's there.
