Better yet if there are significant issues then make a poll where people can vote. Sure it can be manipulated - that's not really the purpose anyway - it would be there to allow people to "speak their piece". A poll would allow a 30,000 ft view of the general consensus which might actually get looked at by the politicos. Does anyone think there are hordes of aides actually reading and summarizing those emails for the representatives? Better to get a summation than just the electronic equivalent of circular file 13.

On an empathetic level I understand people get upset when they feel like they're being taken advantage of. I really understand how a person can be nickled and dimed to death and feel that they should be compensated. But one of the harsh realities of globalization is that jobs are a sellers market. How long could it take to do that piddly crap they mentioned? 15 minutes? Hell I'd invest 15 minutes of my own time to secure my position - especially as well as Apple pays. Keep it up and your job starts looking like a candidate for outsourcing - make it someone elses headache and you make shareholders happy because you're cutting costs. Put it in perspective people - I'll guarantee that most folks piddle away significant amounts of time daily - I'd call a few minutes a day to my employer time well spent. IMHO pretty dumb to bite the hand that feeds when the economy is taking a shit. Facts are they could leave except (a)the job pays well (b) there's very few other jobs paying as well (c)they actually like working there and (d)current policy doesn't offend them enough they feel quitting is an option. Instead they allow a couple of malcontents to convince them to join a holy crusade that only benefits lawyers and pisses off their employer. Yeah - real bright. 8. No surprises on EBay Deal Irritates Individual Sellers · · Score: 1

I am amazed by the number of people bitching about the shipping costs. To the buyer it's a "scam". To the sellers it's simply a way to keep profits out of eBay's hands. eBay has gotten so damned greedy with their fees that the sellers are seeing reduced profits. Since there are a gazillion people selling the same sorts of goods, they have to be able to sell low to stay "competitive". Thus the bump in shipping charges which avoids the eBay fees.

Well - the truly interesting thing about this is that in fact, Congress had hearings *years* ago and found the music companies were gouging on the prices. They paid a fine (where'd the money go?), and were instructed to revise their prices - to my knowledge which never happened. I think one thing was the stipulation they had to donate so many current CD's to libraries for free. Took 'em years and they delivered crap that nobody would want to listen to. I think what we're seeing now is that back then the music industry figured out they needed more politicians in their pockets before proceeding any further with *their* legitimized piracy.

What kind of prehistoric shit is compiling cribbed notes? Of course the price was cheap enough to discourage copying.

  12. Re:Photography suggestions on Full Lunar Eclipse for the Americas on Wednesday · · Score: 1

That shutter speed seems far too long a at the indicated aperture even if the film/ISO speed were down to 64. A well known guide is the "Sunny 16 rule" whereby on a sunny day the proper exposure is had by taking the inverse of your ISO as the shutter speed and aperture at f16. So if you're shooting at ISO 400 the proper exposure for a sunny day would be that available shutter speed closest to 1/400such as a standard shutter speed of 1/500. A lesser known rule is that there is an equivalent for the *full* moon using f11.
Also - the transit speed of the moon would make any shot at 10 seconds absolutely useless as it would move a substantial distance during exposure. Unless you're using a clocked drive (like you would find on a good telescope).
That being said this is an eclipse with attendant reduction in illumination. Typically this would be about 3 fstops. So with an ISO of 400 you should be fine using 1/400 @ f4 or if using a 'scope with an aperture of - say f11 - it would be fine using a shutter speed of 1/60 or so.

You can make a case for or against but it does not affect or influence the human story with a pointed message - *that's* what the movie is about and where it gets its power. A couple of things. In Europe land is scarce and expensive - even if someone wanted to build a specialty "super-store" they'd have a hard time trying to figure out where to put it and pay for it. Not to mention people over there have enough sense to treasure what they have and not tear it down when they decide something bigger is called for. Quite frankly we have a tendency to build shit that is more utilitarian than aesthetic so it's not too hard to decide it should go ;-). Second, gas is cheaper here and the distances between cities large enough to support a super-store are greater. In Europe things are closer together and gas is so much more expensive that it has fostered a shop near home mentality. Don't take this as a put-down - I love the way Europe has maintained a village style community for the most part, I'm simply trying to explain.
