Although IPCOP is solid, we've had issues in the past with delays in updates from the developers end. Those delays turned into months beyond their deadlines which turned us away from IPCOP and on to Smoothwall. We now run Smoothwalls throughout our facilities, PTPVPN to our satellite office in Texas and have never had any issues with them. We're happy with our Smoothy!

Depending on the skillset & attitude of the potential employee, I would bet roughly $20 per hour would be close to what you would get from me as an IT Manager. A couple years ago a law was passed in California dictating the requirements for someone in the IT field would have to meet in order to rate salary. Among those items are the actual pay rate. For me to be considered for salary even though I meet all criteria, I would have to make roughly $90k per year. With deadlines, you could possibly bring in more if you are hourly as there tends to be tons of overtime involved in this field.
However, just because someone has a college degree in Computer Science does not make him the answer to my prayers. I have been that route and decided if it came down to it, experience is more desirable by far.

I feel he is doing the best that he can with the tools that are provided. Now.... If they want to dip into bank accounts to see if there is activity that is unexplained, cool by me. Now, I feel there needs to be some sort of accountability here & a chain in which they must make requests. What I don't agree with is an individual field agent having the power to make such requests. There needs to be some sort of requirement in which higher levels of management within the FBI can base their approval on.

I agree that the terrorists are already winning.
They wanted to blow up a few buildings to scare us
It was not a matter of just knocking down buildings but hitting us hard with our economy & striking fear in its citizens. Killing all those innocent people was an added bonus for them.

Look, I am not trying to troll nor am I trying to start a flame war. Everyone has a difference of opinion. There is nothing you can say that will change my mind nor is there anything I can say that will change yours. There are many parts of this story I agree with and then there are some that I do not.

Yes, however..... what was meant by my post if that the President has put something in effect that he hopes will be used as an asset. If someone takes it too far and abuses it, how is that the fault of our President? That is where my comment about the firearms came into play. They put the weapons on the street for mere profit. They are not held responsible for any acts of violence one takes with their product. No matter how hard you try, you will never be able to get everyone to like us. It is just a fact of life. There will never be world peace no matter how hard one tries at it. You are saying we should change our entire foreign policy to satisfy the Islamic people? Does that not seem to be ridiculous? Should we also refrain from assisting other countries like Iraq that were supressed by the former regime? Those that were so unfortunate to have lived through that can now see how life is in a free land. Is that not worth it.... or are you too selfish not to come to the aid of others that are unable to stand up for themselves? Because we assist other countries, we are to blame. We are the evil country. Screw them. I disagree that our actions have set us back 100 years. Take a look at other countries that are unable to maintain civil life without our aid. The amount of money we pour into other nations to assist them. Who is the main supporter of the UN? Uhm, you got that right.... The US. Without us they are nothing. They do nothing but throw out sanctions and rest on it. More broken promises. The UN functions in a similar manner as my child. If I tell him no, don't do that, failure to listen to me will result in X punishment yet he does it anyhow. If I don't respond with that punishment, it just showed him how serious I am. Failure to follow through is unacceptable.

So it is ok for this administration to not do anything about preventing future terrorism attacks? You would prefer not giving up a little rights to ensure you (or say your wife or children) are not one of the unfortunate individuals that are taken by way of terrorism? Give it a rest. Based on your assumptions that the President put this into place to protect yet bash him because it will be abused. Let's say this..... We should ban all companies from producing firearms simply because those will be abused by someone. You cannot hold the President accountable for the actions of another individual abusing the power he has given them. The person that abuses the power is held liable. For me, please take additional measures to ensure my wife and children are not taken prematurely. I would hate to be one of those unfortunate individuals that were left without a spouse because of those bastards on 9/11. Yes, look into my accounts, I don't care. If it will aid in preventing future attacks, I give them my support.

I honestly belive it was q huge mistake for them all to move their call centers to India. To my knowledge the only company that has remained local is IBM and for that I am grateful. It was because of Dell's horrible service that we switched to IBM in the first place and we will never go back. Roughly a year ago Dell started scaling back. I recall speaking with various techs in the support department while trying to get a new part shipped. They agreed with us as to what the problem was but the execs at Dell had put a piece of software into place that tells the technician how to diagnose issues. The software kept telling them the issue was with the hard drive, so they shipped the hard drive. All the while the techs knew it would not resolve the issue. The onsite support showed up and replaced the hard drive and it did not resolve the problem. We called them back and went through the process again. This time the software said the issue was the motherboard so they shipped the motherboard knowing it would not resolve it. Again, the onsite support showed up and replaced the motherboard. Problem was still there. I believe it was the fourth time where the techs said screw the software, I am going to be a technician and shipped us a new lcd like we had asked for in the first place. If the execs are trying to save money, they should stop making stupid decisions like taking the technician out of the technician. It wasted my time and their techs time not to mention the time for my user that was down from not having a computer.

Yeah, and this past weekend I called HP to get support for my camera. Not really support, wanted my money back. Guess who I ended up getting...... Mike in India. Pretty funny. They gave me the run around. I am still pissed at HP. Stop moving everything out of country!

If a trojan makes its way on any of these, in their eyes I must be at fault because I should have known about it and/or prevented it.

I don't filter anything at my house nor do I have anything other than the linux firewall running as some form of protection. If something ends up on my machines, it could be on there for months before I actually found out about it. I would not want my verdict left up to 12 average people that know nothing about computers and figure since I know enough to probably figure out how to do this, I must be guilty.

Hell, I don't even run encryption on my wireless. Why? Why not.......!? If someone wants to get in, they will.

Based on what you are saying and part on assumption, take this as an example...... If I were to break into your house and steal a knife from your kitchen and stab someone with it, should you be held responsible for it? Um, no... Then why should I be held responsible for someone that breaks into my computer and chooses to use it to wrong someone else?

However, last year the same people were disappointed when they only received the $100 traveler check. I would say for me anything from the boss is a bonus. Rather than taking the money, I would appreciate them giving me time off and making me take it. There are so many other ways to say thank you than making it monetary. In the end it will cost you money, however, how much depends on what you decide to do. One thing to take into consideration are those who will not receive a bonus from you. Are you going to keep it a *secret* from them? If so, what will keep those you do give a bonus to from talking? For me it is nice to know I am appreciated and all those extra hours I put in have not passed without anyone noticing.

If you were my employer and you gave me a $1,500 bonus, I would be completely stoked. I don't know about everyone else but Christmas is a hard time for me financially. I have property taxes that are due around this time, my daughter's birthday and then Christmas a few days later. Anything additional helps. One more thing, it is nice to see a boss that is willing to thank his employees and kick them back some of their earnings. It is rare to find someone that is not only concerned with the wad in their pocket.
