To me it sounded like the listed prices were correct until the person was ready to check-out.
I would have to agree with the GP in his assessment. The consumer should have known something was wrong but chose to take advantage of it.
If I saw the buy one - get one free box set deal, I would expect to get charged for the price of one box set. And if I saw I was not being charged for either, I would call customer service.
That being said, I don't really think Amazon can legally recoup the lost revenue.... But I hope the people who knowingly took advantage of the mistake (which I consider borderline theft) get what's coming to them... maybe genital herpes...
You see more SUVs/trucks in the ditch because the owners are over-confident/stupid and don't realize that all vehicles stop the same on ice... regardless of 4WD or not.
Aside from this Iowa case, why can't Microsoft be tried once more by the government on anti-trust violations. I'm no lawyer, but I feel that every time Microsoft releases something new they do so not for the benefit of the consumer but for the benefit of the share holders. Nothing illegal here, if you want to stay in business you develop new product. And a company is suppose to act in the best interest of the share holders...
Is the government simply too computer illiterate to realize what Microsoft is doing with their latest operating system, or has the whole world gone mad with power money and greed? I don't understand why Microsoft gets blamed so much. What they have done is no different than the industry leader in just about every industry. You don't rise to the top by being best friends with your competition.
I feel like the majority of the population just walks in a row like sheep and recites a mantra to themselves, "Must buy, latest and greatest MS release".... Like lemmings. After reading this part I wasn't surprised to see a linix signature.
Until mainstream programs/games are released for linix at the same time as windows and/or mac, there won't be a shift in market share. Personally, I don't switch because I wouldn't be able to play games. And since gaming is what I mainly use my home PC for, there is no need to switch.
You should focus your Microsoft hatred towards the 3rd party software companies, they are the ones that enable windows to maintain their market dominance.
I think the real problem deals with the episode of '24' being put on youtube prior to the actual airing. The 'Simpsons' videos were just other stuff also uploaded by the same user.
Had it just been 'Simpsons' episodes, they probably just would've been removed and maybe the user banned (unless they were previously unseen episodes).
Just because you don't live in a major metropolitan area doesn't mean you can't have public transportation or a city designed for human beings. Quite a bit could be done to reduce or completely eliminate the need to own your own car. Well, actually it usually does. Lower population density typically makes it difficult to provide feasible mass transportation. I can call for a taxi if I want one, but it'll take 15-20 minutes for one to show up. And what makes a taxi on the road better than my car on the road? I'm willing to bet my car gets better mpg and has less emissions.
There was another poster who said most people who have SUVs or full sized pick-ups don't actually need them. While I agree that some people don't need them, I'd also like to say it depends on where you live. In colder climates, a heavier vehicle is better when the roads are bad. My civic is so light weight I could barely get it up a hill last week when we had a few inches of snow on the ground.
My overall point.. Don't pretend there is one option that is the best for everyone.
_Detectives_ of the campus police force. What's next? Agents of the Campus Intelligence Agency?
the Department of Campus Security? I think they are the ones that put you on double secret probation.
If you are going to go work for a direct competator, why would your company want to keep you around for two weeks? I work in a highly competative industry, and in the past if someone provided their notice to leaving, they are immediately escorted by security out of the building. Any personal items are packed up my their manager and delivered at a later time.
Can you honestly say your loyalties remain with your current employer once you've accepted a new job with another company in the same industry?
This is why I think there's more to the story. They may have reason to believe the submitter was stealing information or using company assets to pursue the other job. No-one on slashdot can give proper "advice" based only on one side of the story.
It's because the average person doesn't know or care about how microsoft got to their current position. What they do know is they have windows installed, it typically works well for them, and Bill Gates gets lots of publicity for donating billions of dollars.
Sometimes the answer is very easy, just hard to see it with the anti-MS bias here.
Or maybe it's possible that, among a group where the prevailing opinion is anti-Bush, or anti-Windows, individuals will be able to engage in rational discussion - and even if they've already formed the opinion you expect of them they may have very good, logical reasons for having done so.
Yes, but those comments rarely get modded up on here. Most often a comment gets modded up because the reader agrees with their stance, not because the post was truely informative or insightful.
I've only bought a few things over the years, but I have received the infamous email stating the winning bidder didn't pay and they were now offering me the chance to purchase the item.
To make a long story short I was willing to pay $25 but got the email asking me to pay $30 because the high bidder didn't pay. I offered $20 (which was my bid until 23rd hour bid) which was rejected. The item was re-listed and the exact thing happened again. Again I offered $20 when I got the email, again it was rejected by the seller. Apparently the third time I was the 2nd highest bidder, the seller finally figured it was best just to accept my offer of $20 and stop losing money on re-listing.
You just have to be stubborn when you suspect you're getting played. If the item isn't highly sought after, eventually the seller will realize they will keep losing money by playing these games.
So what happens when your "passive" resistance turns into burning cars or throwing rocks? Should law enforcement let things get out of control or start throwing lead into the crowd?
Non leathal weapons work because they cause momentary pain, not permanent damage (like getting shot). Using your arguement of torture, we'd have to get rid of pepper spray, tazers, stun guns...
Now I'll accept that it might not be ethical for a bar to continue serving someone who is wasted, at least without checking to see if they're driving, but unethical != illegal.
I believe it is illegal in some places to serve someone who is obviously drunk already. And before people start saying "it's the consumer's choice to keep drinking" think of this.. The last time you were wasted, did you get to the point where you said "oh, I think I'm drunk enough now, no more beer for me!" or was it more like "foiaeaf fuck wooo i'm drvnk... give me another!". You get to the point where you can't make sound decisions on your own.
But this has no relevance to myspace. You can't blame myspace, and you necessarily can't put all the blame on the parents either. One thing I haven't seen yet is blaming the girls who did this. I'm not sure how old they were, but by the time I was 8 I knew things I should not be doing. I didn't always heed that advice, but I knew it was wrong.
No, these two gentlemen are allegedly behind offering a service they know to be illegal to the US.
Think of a Columbian drug lord. He never steps foot in the US, but he is trafficing an illegal good for sale inside the US. Does this make him immune to arrest should he fly through some US airport?
Yes, the analogy is extreme, but you get the point. I'm not here to argue if online gambling should be legal or not.. the fact is that it is NOT legal and you should be prepared to face the consequences if you offer the service to people living in the US.
By the time this goes into effect, there will probably be a few dozen countries with satellites orbiting the planet doing what NASA has been doing for the last few decades. There's no point in everyone sending up satellites to gather the same data.
Since the US is the leader in space exploration, it makes sense to let the smaller players handle the smaller jobs while the US continues to expand the boundries.
If your brother was making 6 figures and his job was out-sourced, chances are he was vastly over paid. Sounds more like a company that was trimming the fat.
R&D is not a cost of production, it's a cost of doing business. The cost of production is higher at the beginning, not because of R&D but because of new processes/machines that need to have the kinks worked out (less good units being produced in a given amount of time).
Try reading the article first. The gov't is stopping them from certifying the machines because they are not following protocol. If they ignored this problem, then you would have a reason to doubt them (on this issue).
The downfall of our own democracy may one day happen due to our own ignorance. I think to combat the threat, we should be encouraging celebrities to speak out about science, to help spread knowledge of what is real, and to combat the growing threat of people who do not know the difference. Celebrities are more influential than experts. Church of Scientology, need I say more? I think the celebrities should stick to doing what they are famous for doing.
Why do these articles appear once a month?
Broadband access in the US "trails" for the same reason mass transit lacks.. population density.
There are more reasons, of course, but ISPs have no motivation to expand services if they won't make money by doing so.
Now can we please stop posting these articles?

Can anyone who's played "Hotel Dusk" and the old Nintendo game "Deja Vu" tell me if it's roughly the same type of game?
Or maybe what is being reported isn't the entire story.
But the only reason for a judge to deny bail is if the crime is so heinous or if the individual is a flight risk (no pun intended).
I did too, but maybe they didn't count the small portion of New Mexico. It's possible the map is slightly off and they never actually entered.
11:59:59am

So, 12:01am would be 1 minute after midnight.
