I am far from a good cyclist, but I have never beat a car going any distance at all. I can sort of keep up with a bus in a slow area with many active stops, but that's it. Cars around here simply tendto move faster than 10-15 miles per hour.
I have also seen that a lot in Washington, even in larger cities. I have never seen a speed trap anywhere near the speed changes, though (although you do have to watch out in the smaller towns, those police tend to be very bored).
Of course, cars tend to run into above ground transmission poles as well. That has taken out my power in the past.
I have also heard stories about older underground lines failing whenever it rained too much, which could be a large problem where I live.
In this specific case the guy was indeed trespassing, making your analogy valid. However, simply offering free wifi is more like placing a pile of condiment packages and napkins on the street along with a sign informing anyone nearby of their existance. In fact, it's like having an employee out there actively picking up what passerbys request and handing it to them.
When I first started highschool I had to start waking up at six in the morning rather than sleeping in. The first half of that school year was hell - I had the same flu three times in a row, I just couldn't fight it off. I caught every virus I was exposed to. I even started having problems with some foods. Things got better as my body got more used to the sleep cycle.
Just to play off your example... Armed with a gun, one could choose to make it somewhat more difficult for the government to "wisk them away". Of course multiple nuke-tipped guided missiles would be more effective, but that is no reason to completely give up on guns.
I am very openly a Uniterian universalist Boy Scout. No one in my troop cares at all. I have never, ever been bothered about my religion in Scouts. Indeed, I have been specificially told that I am welcome. I suppose it is possible that we are breaking some official rules by doing this, it wouldn't be the only one.
Anyone likely to notice a severed eye would probably also notice a kid screaming "he's not my daddy", even without this system installed. If no one is observant than anyone who wants to get in will probably get in anyway.
As someone else said, plugging it in doesn't count. That electricity may or may not come from environmentally friendly sources. Most likely, environmentally hostile sources like coal.
Except those large power plants, even coal burning ones, are much more efficient and put out much less pollution for the same amount of energy a car engine puts out. And that certainly does count.
I strongly reccomend the qbasic.com link. Thats how I learned about programming when I was eight or nine years old. There are tutorials as well as pleantly of programs to play with.
Kinkos? That place has horrible customer service. Last time I was there, the most help I got with their machines was "you put your credit card in the slot next to the green button to pay." All of the employees were standing behind the counter doing nothing at all, yet I had to wait several minutes before one came up to help me at all. There was a lady in the shop also looking for help, by the time I arrived she looked like she was about to cry.
Avoid that place. Too bad nothing else is open on weekends.
The article mentioned that they used a syringe needle becuase it caused the balloon to break in a predictible fashon. I am guessing that using something else would produce a less perfect drop, or one that would fall apart quickly. I suppose this wouldn't matter much though, especially if you know how much debris you are being faced with.
I have a couple of eMachines - my main complaint is that they came with very loud and annoying fans that don't begin to move enough air to keep everything cool.
If I recall correctly, this was done when sinking a merchant vessel, not a battleship - battleships would be able to attack the submarine. This led to problems when the navy started defending merchant fleets - the subs could not safely give advance warning which led to even more deaths.
No, you cannot copyright information. However, you can copyright art. Art isn't the same thing. The copyright laws were created so that the people who create art can choose to be compensated for people enjoying/using their creation.
Therefore, you may not have the right to order the ones and zeros on your computer however you want. If you order the ones and zero in such a way that they represent a copyrighed work that you do not have permission to have, it becomes illegal (this varies, of course, from country to country...)
Whether or not you have committed a moral crime really depends on your morals and the exact situation. Unfortuantly, that doesn't change the copyright laws. And according to the law, yes people can own information - at least information that represents their copyrighted work (for example, an mp3 or a jpeg of a painting).

Better yet, have local tapes to satisfy any robbers in addition to offsite video feeds.

According to the television report, he was asked by an employee, not the police, to leave. He was back the next day.

Does titanium hold an edge well enough to make knives out of it?

This feature came on all cars for free before collapsing steering columns were invented ;)
(Closly mimicing another Slashdot post from long ago)
Perhaps the government should loosen laws regarding varmit guns. Not a solution by itself, but maybe a new pastime for the Australian population.

I know. I almost forgot aobut this shortcut since I stopped using Windows 3.11. Now its used by "real pros these days".

I once heard of one that looked like a cell phone. It used the 'antenna' as a .22 barrel and held five rounds IIRC.
I've seen this happen in America as well.

I read somewhere that one problem with this is that the water in your pores would evaporate and possibly give you instant frostbite.
