Assuming you're using a noob-friendly distro like ubuntu, so are already in a windowing environment, you don't need to worry about command lines. Just look around the menus and find the CD Burner app, just like you would with windows. If you don't already have a CD burner software installed, use the software updater to download one for free. You don't even need to know where it comes from on the internet.
Before you diss Linux for this, Lets see you get a decent CD burning package installed (legally) under windows as easily and cheaply.

Assuming you're a noob and you're not running a windowing environment, you're probably running a distro thats not suitable for your level of ability or needs. Just install ubuntu instead of whatever you're using. See, unlike windows, there are many different distros of linux which means different types of users can get better tailored solutions. Microsoft just forces everyone to work their way which is a massive compromise that doesn't really work for anyone. So with Linux you need to identify your needs and not overestimate your own abilities to find a distro that suits you. This degree of choice is a real advantage, not a disadvantage, even though people brainwashed by windows will often argue and not understand that.

You start firing back, the pirates will just tool up with bigger guns and perhaps with RPGs etc. They will also reduce risk to themselves by shooting first instead of giving the crew a chance to surrender. They could just adopt a strategy of sinking boats first then taking whatever survivors a.k.a hostages are left from the sea.
