    I don't want all the crap that goes over an OS to make it useable by the average secretary, and prevent regular users from seeing a coomand line. if I wanted that, I'd buy windows.

    The fact that Linux does not have all that extra bloatware is a plus, not a minus as the article is trying to make out.

    Honestly ,why should something complicated be dumbed-down for non-experts? The same mentality as TFA is that we should have tools to allow amateurs to do brain-surgery.

    You make it sound like opensource is a compromise to save costs, which is not true.
    Mostly the reason everyone is using opensource but because most opensource is actually better and more useable than Microsoft's products. Free is just a bonus.

    I don't see Microsoft pulling out of China as exactly a slap in their face either. I mean who wants to get locked into the whole overpriced/bloated/mind-controlling windows viral marketing thing when GNU/Linux and other opensource is so good?

    Why does this whole net-services idea persist? It totally sucks.
    Why should my word processor need the internet just to write a doc or open a spreadsheet? I'm sure it works out for Microsoft's marketing division just fine, but there are absolutely no benefits and a lot of disadvantages compared to running your own app locally.

    What about if I want to write a document somewhere where the internet isn't availaable? e.g. on an aircraft or in a country with less internet copnnectivity?

    What if I value my privacy and don't want my docs stored on line on someone elses server, or even going over the internet?

    What if I just want to buy or downlaod for free the software and don't want to pay for a subscription-based services model?

    Average volume and image intensity.
    Commercials are significantly louder than regular tv and the images are usually brighter, especially for cleaning products.
    They do this on purpose.

    Add companies to that set of idiot users. Microsoft don't care about the single user, they're in it for the corporate market only.
    Hence all the DRM in vista too. They also sold out to hollywood megacorps.

    I think there's a bit of a difference between a good SW salary and what the patriots earn.
    What I should have made more clear is that good programmers don't work for crap salaries, they don't need to.
    Its surprising how many companies offer crap salaries then wonder why they have a quality staff shortage.

    *sigh* that path leads to the same bloat that is driving pweople away from windows.

    I don't want my computer to continually assume I know nothing. Why must GUI's have to be dumbed down to suit the lowest common denomiator?

    I'm waaay more productive under Linux than windows precisely because of the conciseness of linux. Also because I can use a terminal window much faster than a gui, and the Linux gui doesn't keep asking me "Are you sure...". Also because Linux doesn't hide detailed technical vocabulary with general terms like a dumbed-down gui does.

    "A system error has occurred" is the most useless error message you can have. Just because its the Microsoft way doesn't mean we have to copy it (in fact its a good reason not to).

    Wow your expierience differs from mine.

    A company I used to work for tried outsourcing to Russian and Indian programmers. The quality of the code coming back was just awful and cost a lot more in after-support than the dev. cost saved.

    You want superstar programmers, you have to pay a superstar salary.

    In my experience (as a programmer) many companies think they can ask for the world yet still only offer a crappy salary.
