I have been using communigate Pro since some years and with the mapi plugin you even get the outlook features running. also communigate includes a PBX and SIP support with no extra licenses
It does have LDAP services included/external support
It is paid, but is lot cheaper than exchange. and runs over whatever platform you like even QNX, BeOS, etc...
Here in Chile, IFX Networks, offers a "clean pair (phone line without phone service on it, just the cooper wire)" for xDSL Connections, for like 2US$ more.
my wife and i, have each a 1000 minutes cell plan, so a land line is "useless" for our scenario.
ummm cellsocket sound nice, not that cheap, but nice
that's right, even i like many linux distros, redhat and SuSE are the only supported by HP for their proliant servers, if we are talking serious about being the sysadmin of a whole datacenter redhat Or SuSE.
besides, the proliants without the software agents makes a LOT of noise
i live in Chile, and the customer protection law, prevents the phonr operators from switching you from plans.
i have a 3 year old plan with 1000 minutes to non-mobile phones country wide, and same operator mobile phones, just for 26 USD$ month. but they almost cut you an arm off for calling other operators phones (0.24 USD$/min).
the activation fee is the same shit here. In Chile there are 2 ways of getting a phone, buying it from the OPERATOR or leasing it from the operator for 24 months, then they change their (remember the phone is never yours and if you brake it, you have to pay it) phone for a new phone( +activation fee) for 24 months more and so on.
1- since redhat 9, rhel3, fc*. there is a package called rpmdb-redhat/fedora.xxxxxx.rpm, when you install it, the rpm dependencies are sugested by output of rpm, and if you set up proper a local install repository or with the dependencies in teh same path, use the --aid option allows rpm to install the dependencies (even the dependencies of the dependencies) missing.
2- 110% agree that gentoo's +2%, does not worth the trouble of compiling the whole system -i.e. emerge openoffice, then wait until summer or so.
3- i'm a LPI and RHCE, i can tell you RPM is more than good enough for any task inside a entreprise enviroment. it allow you to control the install, update, freshen and remove operations of any package anytime you want. - the downside it takes time in a low-end machine to install a complex package but after than works like a charm
4- learn how to use rpm well and you'll be surprised about those special tips. BTW this month redhat magazine has a article about rpm beyond the limited -ivh usage that many users know.
5- just if you are wondering about: i have experience with install and sysadmin use of LFS, Gentoo, Slackware, Rock, Mandrake, Debian (x86 / Sparc / alpha), Ubuntu AMD64 and x86, yoper, Suse, Aurora, even in a old indigo2 with debian/MIPS plus some customs distros derivated from LFS o DSL. Plus Redhat since 6.0 and FC*
true... if your are not getting a seriuos RAID controller forget about hardware raid... is just the same of linux software raid but made by the controller bios and the controller driver.... that's why many "pseudo hardware" controllers make the array but booting into linux, linux only see's the harddisks and no array... becuase there is no real array...
for the trolls: a real raid controller for me is a HP/Compaq smartarray, IBM server raid, Intel RAID, some megaraid controller...
i have a Proliant DL380g2 at my home, and it has a smartarray 5i with 32MB RAM of it's own, and a risc CPU for the array computing...
doing any raid configuration on the machine... the system CPUs are not affected.
Normally a drive crash anonunces itself some time before... use the smartctl tool. that tool checks the SMART info on the disk about posible failures..
I do a lot of software raids and with smartctl, no drive crash has ever surprised me. i always had the time to get a spare disc and replace it on the array before something unfunny happened.
do a smartctl -t short/dev/hda every week and a -t long every month or so...
read the online page of it: http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/
A example of a failing disc: http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/exampl es/MAXT OR-10.txt a example of the same type of disc but with no errors: http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/exam ples/MAXT OR-0.txt
Software raid works perfect on linux... and combined with LVM the things gets even better
Use a Windows Terminal server with the "bitchy" application, connect from linux boxes with rdesktop and voila...
A customer accounting system runs ONLY on windows NT/2000/XP/2003 so we installed in a windows 2000 terminal server, and connect from many desktops with only rdesktop, the problem is that you must purchase anyway some software/licenses/cal from MS, but you can cut down costs in the client OS, antivirus software, virus downtime, office software and computer support.
The other option can be to use netraverse win4lin terminal server, paid stuff, but works GREAT.
Perhaps some of the best mod developers should be invited/sponsored by the games companies, that way the mods and games can be greatly enhaced... just think about it, some mods are even better than the original game... complete with your favorite mod (cs, strike force for UT, jailbreak for UT, etc.)
On the building i lived, i had the same problem, just that i live on the 4th floor (6 floors building), so i asked the community manager about using the internal shafts of the building up to the building's roof, and place my dish on it... i had on ly to ask the manager about and voila'...
if that doesn't work do a kinda ghostbusters 2 movie solution, turn the whole building into a reciving antena.
and the sheep's poo make fertilizer for the lawn, so it's a perfect system, sheep trims grass, sheeps digests grass, sheeps return fertilizer to the grass, grass growns better.... and so on
as said some post down on this thread, thunderbird does spam filtering on IMAP accounts. i used to love evolution.. but MozTB is waaaaay better. is lighter, faster, smarter for many tasks (email related not groupware related)
100% agreed
I use mozilla thunderbird spam filter (after some human teaching to it) and it works marvelous, on a spam-me(account used on usenet, and some forums and to anything that i know that will become a spam source but i need to give a valid email address anyways) email account i have i recive ~38K spams a month and thunderbird only misses 3 or 4 per day... sometimes i look the JUNK folder of it and i haven't seen any false positive on it so far.
ThunderBird is THE email client, works on Linux and Windoze, the spam filter work better than 99% , any many other tricks.
the mozilla spam filter does a very good job too, when it learns enough it becomes over 95% acurate. i dropped evolution for it , and never looked back
disconnect the powerswitch from the motherboard... windoze can shutdown the system without powerbutton... and some motherboard can boot from a keyborad key... or simple unplug the tv when she's watching... with that kind of free time, you can spend it in sex or videogame whatever is for you more pleasent.

That's almost every single dlink card... the SOBs change chipsets, firmwares, and stuff every moon cycle... run away of them...
i still have a good'old orinoco based pcmcia card, is only 11b, but works, with no questions... and does it since redhat 9...
Your are missing the dog's opinion...
email me to k.ellsworth@ THESPAM gmail.com and i send you an invite... as anyone else need one i'll send back invites. i have 50 left
nah try this....
I'm so sorry, how you let that happen?, didn't you take precautions?
that's more like it.
PS: still M$ pays some good salaries, could be worst, like the fame of M$ with the kind of work conditions and money from EA
almost same scenario at my home, my wife's cell phone number is like the home number.
bye bye landline.

mine: SCAN_ME_AND_DIE :), and many try to access it but, wep 128 + mac access control works perfect.

well said.
I'm gonna make the biggest virus of all for windows... a virus that deletes the sol.exe of every single windows machine... muahahahahah

P4 2533 FSB533
1GB ram DDR333 Kingston ECC
Radeon 9600XT 128MB
Asus P4P-E
runs on 1024x768 in high, no hiccups (2X FSAA, 2X anisotropic filtering).
i guess is the ram.
same setup on a friend's pc, but with 512 ram and noname mobo, and runs quite jumpy
