Recently, I decided that my old 4MB card was too puny for my needs, and went shopping for a new video card.
I had $22.
Almost every store I went to was pushing 128MB cards with 3d acceleration and over features, for over $200.
Way overkill.
Other stores hadn't the foggiest idea what I was talking about, and tried to sell me TV tuner cards, for an average of $220.
Wrongo, buddy.
Eventually, I found *ONE* card in an obscure shelf of the nerd-store, mixed with all the super-overkill-$200+ cards. It had 8 MB of Ram, and was priced at $19.
That card now powers my video operations.
Why were they so anxious to sell me the big-cards when I so obviously could not afford it?
Corporations are required by their bylaws to make as much money as possible. By any means possible.
If it were legal to mug people, they would. They would have to. If it were legal to sell child porn, they would. They would have to.
One exception.
They won't do it if they think that the public support that they would lose is greater than the profits that they would gain. Corporations do not wish to shoot themselves in the foot to make a buck.
Which is exactly why we should make a big stink about this.
If we let them get away with it, they'll keep doing it. They have to.
But if we bitch and moan and whine and complain and boycott, they'll consider these projects to be shooting themselves in the foot.
I can tell you that every day, new people get on the internet and decrease the signal to noise ratio. My grandfather just got an AOL account, for instance, and promptly forwarded me every bad joke in the book.
The concept of "spam" is apparently new to him.

I took two online tests to get a job, and dispite doing well in them, I didn't get the job. My BS degree isn't final yet, and that impacted me negatively...
Hey, tests are pretty useless if you ignore the results.
...they're not in very good hands. VERY few of the military brass knows more about computers than my mother does, and my mother is the kind of person who gets angry with me for being unable to stop the "illegal operation" dialouge box from closing the program.
Well, I know it's a general assumption that people want to have the same interface with everything, but don't they know how little that kind of thing works? Icons can only be drawn so small, after all.
Preferably, a handheld should behave more like a notepad or scratch paper...or maybe I shouldn't talk about these things, after all, I personally prefer desktop machines.
I have to do tech support for my mother all the time. ALL the time.
"Frank, what does this illegal operation thing mean, and why does it keep destroying my work!"
She should use linux, but even the idea of logging in scares her for some reason.
Anyway, to all those who do tech support, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for dealing with these poor, underinformed people.
But...what does Apogee say about this?
Hopefully they'll be like ID and encourage it...
Teach all your computer illiterate friends and relatives to use broadband. If you can.
Of course they're not human, they're one inch tall plastic figurines!
Sheesh.
I was whacked on the head by a window by mistake.
Hurt quite a bit.
Next memory I have, I was three.
(Boy, this is sure a stupid post.)

New york, most crowded place on earth, has finally agreed that cell phones can be annoying in certain public places.
Why do you think these places are called "Auditoriums" if you can't hear (Latin "Audium")?
Damn cell phone junkies....
Capitalist law can be pretty harsh.

That is, if we have money.
Who makes more money, IT or RIAA?
And two, which adds the most to the enconomy,
IT, or RIAA?
(Pessimistically betting that they pick RIAA.)
This is a stunning victory against the forces of spam.
Now if my own country (United states) would get a similar precident....
Horray for XS4All!
(reads more closely)
If you can't beat them, join them.
Isn't that right, Bill?
Throwing out a patent case must take some real guts in today's world. Just look at how insane patent law has become!
Read through this stuff five times, still don't get it. I'm not as smart as I thought I was.

This is most unfortunate!
...That the mafia could figure out that they're being bugged! Surely they would have SOME kind of techie working for them...
