Except that maybe there should be privacy laws in place that forbid a potential future employer, e.g., to screen your DNA.
Funny just today a coworker at the place where I'm doing work for my diploma told how some company where he likes to work wants a few sentences of him written by hand, allegedly to analyse his handwriting for character traits, or whatever... now, isn't that stupid. Did any of you hear s.th. like this before?
Another one jokingly said, if they would use it to do some DNA profiling at least there might be some scientific foundation to it.

    Hi FuturePastNow,

can you point out to me how I can change the user-agent of Mozilla/Seamonkey... I googled quite a bit but couldn't find anything. I vaguely remember getting to a long list of preferences when typing some keyword with a colon at the end into the address bar...

How do Mac/Linux versions of Mozilla identify themselves?

    Thanks in advance,

  8. Not in Germany WAS: Big companies on Microgrids May Provide Distributed Energy · · Score: 1

Actually, in Germany we have laws to support the development of this kind of decentralized power generation. If you've got solar panels on your roof, the electricity company is forced to buy any surplus energy from you at a price that is higher than the one regular customers pay for the electricity.

This is financed by a special tax on all energy called Ökosteuer (Steuer = tax)

I've already wondered if this system couldn't be abused. For example you could store some energy in large accumulators or fuel cells at night, and return them to the grid during the day, pretending it's photovoltaic energy. I'm not sure though, which efficiency you would need to actually profit from this.

What does "for cars that are powered by solar energy only" mean. Do the batteries need to be empty at the start of the trip? Or as full as they were at the start when the cars reach the finish?

Otherwise I wouldn't count it as "solar energy only", even though they might have charged the accumulators beforehand through the solar panels.

Just wanted to let you know that there are lots of site's on the internet that let you unlock your cell phone for FREE (especially Nokias). All you have to do is to enter the IMEI of your phone in some web form, plus some additional info. There's a list at:
    http://www.yesss.at/index.php?id=W01
It worked great for 'a friend of mine', who had an older Nokia phone.
Not sure how legal it is to do this, after all you OWN the phone after you bought it, you are allowed to through it against a wall and destroy it, why shouldn't you be allowed to unlock it?

How about writing a Skype to SIP gateway. That's because of an offer of 1und1.de of a calling 'flatrate' for around 10/month to any landline in Germany.

If I had such a gateway, I would offer people free calls to numbers in Germany, maybe asking them for a small donation if they use it a lot, so I can cover my expenses.

However, I didn't find any OS or free (as in beer) configurable SIP client to connect this to... I've looked a bit into the Skype API, and it seems connecting to Skype should work (one problem being that Skype needs to connect to a soundcard, so I would also need a 'virtual' soundcard, if I don't want to connect two soundcards together) or connect the phone line to the soundcard (my modem/router handles the SIP translation), which probably could be done with a device similar as the one presented in the arrticle.

What do you think of this idea, would you place a call through a Skype-SIP-PSTN gateway (privacy implications...)?

Maybe you know of a solution already?

    Kind Regards,
