while the specs for decoding video are AWESOME (especially for the price point), what I continually point out to people is that the low CPU can still kill you on some things. I have an NVIDIA ION / Atom D330 HTPC that can destroy the 40Mbps x264 killasample absolutely no problem, yet has trouble on some of the even medium-flashy skins for XBMC.
like i said, performance/dollar this thing is still awesome, but you do still have to think of the whole package.
i have a nexus S from a carrier - grabbed it, ROM'd it (back to vanilla), saved a few hundred bucks. I can understand not wanting to get sucked into a 2yr agreement, but this is something i personally have no problem with since i'll be with them for 2 yrs anyhow.
"not right for everyone" - maybe "plain stupid" - take it easy, man.
i slightly agree with you, though i do find it to be a serious PITA to have to unencrypt every time i want to get something - do you use any other apps to handle that for you?
also, how big is your volume? the one i throw on there is only a few megs, but i can imagine the sadness that will occur once it stretches to a few hundred megs and has to be up/downed every time to sync something....any advice for that?
man, what a bunch of bullshit. Android is the software, and has NOTHING to do with the hardware problems they may have.
This is like saying "windows machines have more hardware problems than linux machines."
I am an iphone user, had a galaxy S previously, and I understand what they are saying - but don't throw mud on HTC's hardware when you're really talking about some shitty kyocera handset that happens to run android 1.1!
no, reader is web-based - so basically instead of clicking a folder, you click on your reader tab for those 10 seconds....but yeah, i get what you're saying.
while i agree that insulting people is generally not a good way to get your point across, what he's saying is that the landline is just about dead - I doubt anyone that moved out of their parent's house after around 2003 or so got one - why would you? When all the boomers (like my parents, and many other's parents) die out, the land lines will die with them.
don't get me wrong, this is not about me (or anyone else) WANTING the land line to die, and I completely understand why people keep them (everyone has your number, etc) - but for those of us that never got a chance to buy one (i grad'ed college in '05 and already had a cell when i moved to an apt), there's just no reason to ever get one.
i guess for me the prevailing thought is that its just completely unnecessary for them to do this. While i agree being able to get an LED or something else is good once in a while, Digikey and mouser both have MILLIONS of components, and (for me) they show up the next business day with ground shipping!
just head over to futurlec and grab a bunch of resistor assortments / IC packs / Regulator packs / 74XX packs and you've basically got your own 'radioshack' at home for maybe $20. Other than that, do some actual PLANNING and order what you need per project.
besides, does anyone really want to pay $4 for every single component they buy?
i've actually been shocked by how many users there are. even where i live (MKE, WI) i went out a few nights ago and there were 15 people checked in at a restaurant that holds maybe 50 people max. i'll agree with you that its still not even close to a fraction of a percent of the general populous, but its not like i'm in the bay area or NY - this is the frickin midwest for gods sake!
yea, speedo's (and odo's, subsequently) can be off by a good amount due to the fact that your car has no idea how big your wheels are. And i'm not even talking about non-OEM wheels, i'm talking about wheels being under/overinflated. It's pretty common for manufacturers to overstate the speed for this exact reason
growing up in the 'burbs, many friends had those stupid giant wheels on their pickups, and had to basically multiply their speed by a certain factor to figure out how fast they were actually going
yea, i guess i was looking on the ECU side (OP said the "computer was acting screwy") so i was more interested in a situation where the ECU incorrectly read info, but i will concede that a physical world problem should have been obvious to me.
i'm a test engineer and was on a project where the ECU was our device under test, so i was mostly interested in this guy's story of a failed ECU/computer, but more than likely i'm thinking this isn't the case....
as a EE who's pretty involved with both CAN communications and OBD systems, i'd love to hear your story about your car recording the wrong info from your accelerator.
plus, at least with windows you can deny it on the firewall and the app will still run. with android, (like you said), you can either submit or you don't get the app : (
you are fine because you don't have the offending drive. I believe it is hitachi - the other one was samsung at the time. Now there are 4: hitachi, samsung, liteon, and benq.
as a homebrewer/legal backuper/whatever you wanna call it, you need to remember that this update is mostly geared towards anti-piracy. In fact, the 'newer' disk format being bigger is really just a side effect of completely re-doing the video partition and other pieces of the piracy puzzle.
They KNEW that this update would not work on certain 360 drives (hell, even WE know what the different drives are capable of). My guess is that they are willing to just accept it and hand out free consoles just to get this update pushed out, because it looks like its going to be disastrous in the backup community (dvddrive firmware read/writes by the MOBO?!), and they are willing to pay a bit to eradicate the pirates.
the best part is that for all the comments regarding how terrible they are and how they can't believe anyone owns anything sony, there sure seem to be a LOT of people on/. that were affected...
wow awesome, i never even looked into this! and yes i'm on eden.
many thanks!

more importantly, i'd like to see an article on "why your data's 30YO stereo sounds better than yours....and why you don't care"
Ever since the loudness war started, fidelity doesn't matter since the source material has been compromised.
i slightly agree with you, though i do find it to be a serious PITA to have to unencrypt every time i want to get something - do you use any other apps to handle that for you?

do you have anything against google reader? i used to hate it but when i moved to chrome i decided to give it a fair chance, and haven't looked back.
(i know that doesn't exactly answer your question, but...)
the wavelength is ~3mm (95ghz)
that better be some SWEET chain mail to have that kind of coverage.
you mean MS sharepoint browser?
seriously, its like they design it NOT to work with the other ones...

also, the trailer looked pretty damn faithful - hell, prodigy's 'invaders must die' was the soundtrack....

i've never understood this attitude....why do you have 4square if you don't care?!
(and if you're seeing the crossposts on facebook, why have you not hidden all checkins yet? its 2-clicks away, not even in a menu...)

can we all agree that we hate anyone that checks in at their house and/or workplace?
i have two criteria for checkins - either restaurants/bars/clubs or unique stuff (landmarks and stuff) - anything else and i just don't see the use.

what's ridiculous is you comparing a phone to a walky talky.
"as trivial as a phone"? my phone almost has a faster cpu than my current nettop (atom 1.6), and about as much ram.

you mean "Goldlfish memory stick PRO Duo", which means they're stuck with sony whether they can remember anything or not : (
