I can't STAND when people say 'its free, so its ok if it goes down.' When i purchased a PS3, the PSN was a FEATURE that i considered when i bought it. As such, it's not really "free", its more like it was wrapped into the MSRP. By your logic, they should be able to take away the entire network for GOOD and everyone should be completely happy. is this true? when i used to have an iphone (3g) i bought a bunch of those crappy hard shell cases that look EXACTLY like the back of the phone (even has the logo, says 'apple of california', all that text, etc) you can get from china for like $0.60/pop.

No joke, people would ask me all the time where i got the awesome blue iphone from, and where they can get one. i would explain about the case, ebay, etc, and they were saddened. i never got it - it LOOKS exactly like what you wanted, and now you're sad because you CAN'T spend a ton of money to get it, instead spending less than a buck? yeesh.

yea, i saw your reply after writing mine, my apologies - my post was more for just general information regarding how good their 'HD' actually is, and to combat people that only care about seeing '720p' in the corner of their tv and dont give a crap what's being served up.
i could be wrong, and i've done NO research on it, but i believe there is some stupid legal reason that they can't serve you HD on a PC...all of the settop boxes have licenses for it, blah blah HDCP, etc...
Netflix of course does have HD, however the bitstream (which is REALLY what matters) is only at an average of 3Mbps. For reference, most blurays have an average of 10Mbps and the peak is something like 48Mbps.
does this matter? in my opinion, not really...the stuff looks pretty good. is it as good as blurays or even a nice x264 rip from the internets? god no.
bitrates, kids, bitrates. 1080p at 1Mbps will look much, much, MUCH worse than 480p at 5Mbps.
just wanted to throw in my two cents - i used to install chips around the D2Ckey era (when they were all 25-30 wire and a PITA) and i was SHOCKED at the amount of clients I had that were doing it only to play backups of their own games due to having kids. Seriously, it had to be like 1/6 people (i would say i was averaging 20 systems a week) that were in this bucket. Some of them had no idea you could even download them, and never even considered it!
almost gave me a tiny shred of hope for the 'fair use' arguments that people always throw around!
To be honest, this is actually sort of awesome - tons of people spend LOTS of time and money hacking together things that do this for you (look on hackaday.com for GPS based logging crap).
in summary - the technology? awesome! not ever picking (or even SEEING) this as an option? probably not ok.
me - you're thinking way too high level, its just a truecrypt file that's sitting in my dropbox space. I have to manually open truecrypt and enter the key (from memory) every time i want to access something in it. to them, it just looks like a giant binary file that is of no use to them.

essentially - most of us wouldn't steal a nice beamer that's out on the street. However, if you had a machine that could make an exact copy of said beamer, while leaving the original PERFECTLY intact, would you do that? of course!.
as for who owns the copy, i have no idea - but that dude that made the beamer duplication machine better get some sort of kickback, that guy kicks ass!

contacts: works great, no complaints here! If i had to really nitpick, i'd say no support for google's contact groups. you can of course do your own groups within the phone, but we're talking about google integration here. (i dont use contact groups so this isn't a big deal)
calendars: Only my main calendar shows up, not my other sub calendars. The type of google sync i'm using is where you add it as an exchange server, so i'm not sure if that matters. as for shared calendars, i can't comment - do you add those separately from your google exchange account or does it 'auto-grab' them? if it does, it's not working for me at the moment. I'd love to rectify this, as i actually do have quite a few calendars within my account ('bills', 'todo', 'birthdays') but only my main one ('afex') shows up as selectable in calendar settings. **edit** before submitting this comment i found a lifehacker post for multi calendars including color support w/ caldev or something, so i'm looking into it! still, the fact that i have to screw around with 3rd party apps is annoying :/
mail: this one is the weakest link. gmail's label system is (i believe) light years ahead of folders, and i use it to control every aspect of mail. in iOS, labels aren't shown at all (you can see them in the 'folder' list, but items with multiple labels get a bit confusing). Also, if you want to archive something, its pretty convoluted - you have to select the message, then 'move' it to 'all mail', which means you have to hit approx 4 or 5 buttons. essentially what i'm saying is that syncing works fine and reading/writing mail is ok, but as for mail 'management' (applying labels, moving stuff around, etc) its a complete pain in the ass on iOS. on an android device, however, labels all work perfectly (and they show their colors! oooo...) and archival works great.

Which galaxy S did you have? I have the captivate (AT&T's) which is a much sharper (not like 'cool', i just mean not rounded) design. However, when I was researching phones I am absolutely not afraid to admit that i thought the vibrant and the fascinate both looked A LOT like the 3g/3gs line.
After having both an i4 and the captivate, i will say the following:
1) awesome! i agree this is a sweet feature - and i've used it exactly once, to load a ROM in. after that, never again. 2) Great! After having a 3G and an i4, i've never ever EVER EVER had the need to take the battery out. With my old blackjack and with the captivate, i was always yankin' that sucker out. sad... 3) i'll absolutely agree with this one, although the captivate has a little door over the USB port, which i think is a serious design flaw. also, i grabbed up like 10 apple cables on ebay for a couple of bucks from china... 4) again, i'm probably a bad example since I dont listen to that much music, but i rarely transfer stuff from and to my captivate. Also, i ssh stuff over the the i4, but i realize that doing that is 'cheating' and we're only talking out of the box functionality here. 5) i really can't believe people complain about this - your last point was BRAGGING about computer connectivity, and now you dont even want to connect to your laptop ONCE to activate it? yeesh... 6) same with iOS....however i will concede that the google account integration on my captivate is obviously a HUGE selling point, as the native mail client absolutely DESTROYs apple's. 7) It's interesting that you mention this. where can you not c'n'p in iOS? the other funny thing is that android's cut and paste was TERRIBLE until about january of this year. 8) again, between surfing on my galaxy and the i4, i really find no difference - that is, there are very VERY few times that i've said 'gee i wish i had flash support'. but, again, its another 'good to have' thing i suppose. 9) this is no longer true (at least for AT&T's captivate), as the latest ROM from samsung disabled this. Anyhow, just throwing in my 2 cents as someone who operates on both platforms and is still a fan of both!

While this is not "correct" or "legal", many of us (techies) see it as morally correct. See also: grabbing a dvdrip of something when you own the DVD because you dont want to have to go looking for it.
i assume you are just making a joke, but the difference is that each laptop converts its own AC to DC in your scenario. In this story, they are essentially using one giant power brick and distributing that to each laptop.
