If you look at the responses on Whitehouse.gov then you villl see that the responses are all pretty lame and meaningless. This is when they even choose to respond. Many times they simply say they wont bother responding. The petitions simply get a response that you would expect when calling a call center in India for customer service. Nothing ever changes or happens from a petition.
If you cannot innovate litigate. If you can't litigate legislate. Seems like this is the business model of business involved in the entertainment industry.
A quick search gives an estimate of 400 million to a billion users a month. Lets be conservative and say only 100 million users/month. Times that by 20 and you get 2 billion. That is a lot more than what Google makes in a month. Certainly more than what they make by simply selling data from their users. I would think maybe $1/month should be enough, maybe $2/month to make it worth their while to setup and such. I think $2 is much more than what they make every month.
I would agree that the patent system in the US is severely handicapped. But abolishing it entirely would severely handicap drug development.
It takes years of testing to get a drug approved by the FDA, and that costs big big money to do. You get the drug approved by the FDA and then a chemist comes and makes the exact same thing, and your years of investment into research and development and clinical trials of that drug are going to not be paid off. Somebody would essentially walk the path that you made and they would reap the same benefits just simply by copying what you have done.
If you rely on VOIP for your calls then you would be lucky to have Google Talk for your provider. I run a call center and we use a VOIP service. I have worked with several VOIP providers and they would be lucky if they only went down once a year. I use Vocalocity and they go down once every 3-4 months. 8*8 (8 by 8) goes down probably about half that.
If Google talk has been up for a couple years and if this is their first outage, well then I would say that they are the most reliable.
I think there are those that game the system, and there are those that do it right. I have seen several sites that have too many keywords. They have always been against keyword stuffing. Google tries to focus on getting good results that are relevant to the search. Spam is something that is difficult to filter out. The places that do SEO will still get their business on the first page of Google because they will just work inside of Google's new paramaters.
The places that get penalized, for the most part will get back up on Google simply by changing their tactic. Backlinks are always important, and they will probably just build more backlinks.
There is also a good chance that they will get more involved with social media, like facebook or twitter. Some will post youtube videos and optimize them for their business.
There is no way to keep spammers out but hopefully this reduces it.
Google is putting a lot of its weight behind Google plus I know that they are trying to push businesses to do it. I recently had to create a google+ for this website:
Massage Therapy Longview, WA to help with placement. I don't know if google is trynig to get it to be more like linkedin, or what, but they sure are putting a lot of weight behind it.
I don't think it is based on Lies just not revealing information. In a normal interview it is illegal to ask an applicant's age. The movie industry is probably different, but I would imagine that asking somebody's age during an audition would also be Illegal.
I remember seeing an estimated price for this to sell at auction a couple weeks ago. Reading the comments people seemed to think it wouldn't sell for what it had predicted.
Looks like it did
The auction house expects it to sell for over $160,000.
The symptoms, which also include memory loss, trouble concentrating, skin rashes, hyperactivity, night sweats and insomnia
Thats funny I read about this as a kid.
'I cannot go to school today, '
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
'I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more-that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut-my eyes are blue-
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke-
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb.
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is-what?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is...Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play! '

This is somewhat offtopic and will probably be modded as such, but since its related I thought I would put it out there.
I am using Windows 7 also and I have an HDTV. I connect with an HDMI cable (HDMI on both ends). If I turn off my screen then it will not come back on without unplugging the screen. This is another annoying bug. It works normally when I don't use HDMI to connect to my computer, and convert it to DVI.

Daniel Burton will probably be the first person to do it on 2 wheels, he should complete this by the end of this next month.

Why not just say a 16 megapixel camera? Is it just me or is a 16 megapixel camera not impressive.?
I would suggest Lojban so nobody gets confused what we were trying to say
They call it Craple.

This has got to be one of the worst/best puns I have read on /. I commend you for your work.

Somebody has already created DNA from scratch and placed it into a cell. So they are pretty close to doing this already. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/21/science/21cell.html?_r=1/URL

I am surprised that it wasn't 100% that people would say a computer game can have educational value.
Nothing to see here move along..... wait a second...
