I rather doubt it's paid advertising. I base that on the review summation ...
While the XFPS is a good idea, the lack of mouse sensitivity and necessity of setting up a rig specifically to use the peripheral makes it a device whose potential outstrips its usefulness.
Looks to be just an honest review. I don't think there should be an onus on reviews that don't occur at the time of release. Sometimes I find later reviews to be less biased, both for and against, and more informative because they are removed from all the marketing hype.

Well, I'm reading a lot of subjective opinion based on your personal preference. Just because you feel that way, doesn't make it so for "the rest of us".

What I am saying (not suggesting, btw) is that EA locks-in the ESPN crowd with this deal. In no way did I say it would bring in "the rest of us".

For the record (and to include my subjective opinion), I spent $50 and purchased NFL Fever first. I didn't like certain qualities of the game, so I decided to give the ESPN 2K5 a try since it was only another $20. I always skipped over the in-game content of NFL Fever as it was extremely repetitious. I find myself actually watching much of the in-game content on ESPN 2K5, it is very well done. ESPN didn't influence me to purchase the 2K5 game first, but it sure as hell will influence my decision when I go to purchase next years football product.

Now, this is my opinion as much as your post was your opinion. But I promise I won't make the ridiculous mistake to suggest that "the rest of us" are on my side.

Yeah, I'd agree with your assessment that Disney looked to take advantage of the world series win. Hey, it worked.

Also OT: Disney changed the name from California Angels to Anaheim Angels ... now the new owner wants to change it to the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim". I'm sure the singing cowboy is turning in his grave.

So EA can brand their games with ESPN. Woohoo. Big f***ing deal. I don't see how this is of any real importance (unless I'm missing something?
You are missing something, but that's because you aren't a fan of ESPN. There is a very real and devoted group out there who love ESPN. They love SportsCenter, their commercials ("This is SportsCenter"), and their personalities (Dan Patrick, Boomer, Dick Vitale, etc.). ESPN has garnered an MTV-like (and I mean 1980's MTV) aura and devotion to it.

Combined with the NFL exclusive deal, this is one hell of a shot across the bow of all of EA's competitors.

I bed Ted Turner still shits his pants daily thinking of the mistake he made merging with them. Everything AOL touches turns to shit.

    Here's Ted's own recent editorial.

    Excerpt:

When CNN reported to me, if we needed more money for Kosovo or Baghdad, we'd find it. If we had to bust the budget, we busted the budget. We put journalism first, and that's how we built CNN into something the world wanted to watch. I had the power to make these budget decisions because they were my companies. I was an independent entrepreneur who controlled the majority of the votes and could run my company for the long term. Top managers in these huge media conglomerates run their companies for the short term. After we sold Turner Broadcasting to Time Warner, we came under such earnings pressure that we had to cut our promotion budget every year at CNN to make our numbers. Media mega-mergers inevitably lead to an overemphasis on short-term earnings.

This is the one they'll hope to get in once the Dems are done fighting against the nomination of Ashcroft. One response which came to my mind is the difference in the way Jobs will leave the company. The first time, he was ousted and had zero input towards his successor. The same people who thought he wasn't worth the trouble, also picked "safe, conservative" executives to run Apple. That didn't work out. You can't be conservative in an industry where your ideas may be obsolete by next year. Well, not unless you use your monopoly illegally.

This time around, when he decides to hang it up, he'll have input in the decision of who'll replace him. It could make all the difference in the world between what happened from the mid-80s until the mid-90s, and what will happen when he leaves/retires/dies this time.

The last time Apple issued a press release about .Mac subscriber numbers was in October of 2002 and they had over 180,000 subscribers.

I scanned through all the 2003 and 2004 PRs, and there's no further mention of .Mac subscriber numbers.

I did find a more recent (June 01, 2004) mention of a "boast" of 250,000 subscibers, but I couldn't determine if they are talking about total subscribers or just UK subscribers.

I figure there are two reasons for the lack of an official Apple PR since October 2002. One, the numbers haven't increased dramatically since then, so there's little to report. Two, iLife was announced shortly after the October 2002 PR, then followed by the iTMS announcement in early 2003. Quite a number of Apple's PRs have been about those two items, which are, admittedly, better PR eye-candy.
