Do Indian techs feel that they have the opportunity now to become the producers, the designers, the ones who create businesses?
Nothing was stopping them from being inspired to produce innovative products before, why would this change anything? Look at CroTeam.. the makers of Serious Sam. Just a couple of guys from Croatia who wanted to make a game, and now look at them. They have a great engine, and a top-selling game.
Is this a flame? Programmers cant form unions in the U.S., at least in practical terms. We'd just be fired and replaced. The US work week is usually well in excess of 40 hours, with no overtime. We get a paltry 2 weeks vacation a year, which oftentimes we are discourage/prevented from taking. Insurance costs are skyrocketing, including copays and out of pocket expenses. Profit sharing and stock options are from the last century.
I have seen 2 different studies that confirm what you are saying. One said that on average we work actually longer work weeks than most industrialized nations, and get less vacation time than basically everyone. I am not sure I agree with what you say about unionizing though. I do believe it could be done, just that no one has tried.
Why not have the back-panels at least be LCD, so you don't have to switch out plastic panels? Seems like a pain, and limited in growth. You are going to have order new plastic panels when new information becomes available on the network?
Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome idea. Just seems a little old-fashioned changing out panels when you want to see a different set of data. They'll get lost, damaged, outdated.. etc.
It isn't more secure. It's just more obfuscated, because it's more complex. But that doesn't make it more secure, it makes it potentially _less_ secure.
I think the idea is that an attacker would install a hidden sshd on your system, and you wouldn't know. You wouldn't even see an open port. You wouldn't see concentrations of connections to one "closed" port, but sporatic attempts at a few seemingly random ports. The attacker would use this as a backdoor into your system. I think you got the wrong impression that this would be a keen tool for system administrators for some reason. I didn't RTFA, but jeez.. at least read the summary.
What did we produce after we stopped producing shoes, then cars, etc? Other stuff! Capitalism works because human progress is unlimited.
You tell 'em! We still make lot's of stuff. Like.... Well, most of those American flag bumper stickers are printed here. Although one time, I was working retail and we sold American flag lighters. A guy came back screaming that the lighter was made in China. I thought he was joking so I laughed. He almost attacked me. It actually was made in China. It was still funny.. but sad.
What do we make here besides Japanese cars? I'm no expert in the global economy by any means, but it seems to me in my limited sight that we basically act as the middle man and deal broker to the world these days.
Life can be harsh, don't make it harder in the long run by giving away money now.
Let him live with that realization a few years down the road. Smacking yourself in the head will be worth more then anyway than it would to invest it smartly now.
As for the original question, of course that's enough. I'm actually kind of worried for this guy. I just picture him walking around town with $7k in his hand asking "Will this be enough?!?!" and just handing it to the first guy who buys a few APs off of Ebay and some nics. *shrug*, to each his own.
Is it possible to "SPAM back" someone by the means of/. effect?
I would say just run a new story about SPAM, with all of their website addresses on the front page. The ones that didn't get shutdown would have blown a couple of hundred bucks keeping up with the traffic.
Are you defending spammers, or offended by Microsoft? I always wondered what a moderation fiasco it would be if somehow spammers were put up against Microsoft in a debate on Slashdot. Seems like maybe that would be the end of it all. A portal would open up in the middle of the universe and just suck us all into the nothing.
Unfortunately, with columns like this one blaming the worm on "some ticked-off Linux fan", it needs to be said.
So, I wonder if this person thinks it wasn't some ticked off Linux fan. I don't mean this as a troll, or flamebait.. but seriously, do you think some kid somewhere just up and decided to attack SCO cause they're a high-profile target? Not likely.
Wait a sec... the President?!?! Are you talking about Bush? Do you have footage? Can you set up an FTP site or a torrent? That would be the best publicity EVER! I know after watching that (over and over and over), I'd be saving up my hard-earned for a Segway.
Im just mad that Microsoft f*cked up Halo, and im never buying an xbox.
I happen to be an Xbox zealot now maybe.. but yeah, I remember waiting and waiting for Halo to come out on the PC only to find out it was being hijacked by Microsoft. A very sad day for America indeed.
Well, first you'll need to appoint a Chief Smartberry, and then make a web page with a flash banner of sort sort. I think it sort of works itself out after that.
In fact id say the only reason why the Xbox is popular is because the company behind it can pretty much throw as much money as they want behind it, they dont innovate, they buy companies who do.
Wait, for a second I thought you were talking about Sony. Because I know they didn't "innovate" much with the PS1 gamepad (stolen from SNES), the analog stick? (stolen from N64), CD based games? Turbo-DUO.
How about their in house developement or flagship characters? Crash Bandicoot?
Locking in developers? How about Rockstar games? Sad that such a great game (Vice City) had to be shelved so long from the PC and Xbox while Sony tried to milk it for all it was worth. Of course if it were released on all systems at once, people would see how terrible it looked on the PS2 in comparison and buy something else.
No, not at all. The superior picture will be the one that looks the best with the given paint. Each kind of paint (console) has advantages & disadvantages -- there is no perfect paint, because they have different attributes which make them all good.
Who cares what the developers think? The Xbox is definitely not the favorite console of the people playing games.
Yeah, who cares about the developers. That's a smart attitude.
The bottom line is that if you want to play any game besides "Control The Jaggie Object Through Dark and Foggy Terrain", you're going to have to have something besides a PS2. I like how Vice City was beautified to take advantage of the better Xbox hardware. It's sad to see it on the PS2. I won't even play it. For whatever reason, Sony has the market-share. That's undeniable. Their practices would get Microsoft blasted by these same people who see Sony locking in developers, bullying competition, etc, etc though.. and think "Golly, Sony is way better than Microsoft. And the 'Memory Stick' is a rockin' good idea." Oh well, live and learn I guess..
Segway could have been, and still might be, a great product if the price comes down some. There are plenty of jobs that require a human to move reasonable distances by foot, cycle or small cart that could use a Segway; mail delivery, inspection/security patrols and so on.
You're right. Here in Denver plenty of people own those small scooters for use downtown, and you can get those locally for as little as $999. Seems like if the Segway were in the sub-$1000 market you might see couriers and the like using them as you would be able to actually bring them inside of where ever it is you are going.
Also, having the president fall off of one - in public no less - is probably not the best publicity you could have.

How does it feel to have your skills and knowledge continuously disparaged by people with little or no experience of working with Indian programmers?
Yes, and then how does it feel coming from people who do have experience working with Indian programmers?

And this was not the case here in the USA during the "Dot Com Boom"? I sense an invalid argument...
I think during that period in America we probably had more tech workers per capita than India. I sense an overly "culturally sympathetic" troll.
No problem except that Comcast will close your account and threaten you.
Why do they have to be underground? Would it be so bad if they could have their own magazine and perhaps some clubs/organizations?
There have been tons of virus groups and magazines.
The google cache, in case that link doesn't go.

Looks like the secret knock for this site was just hitting port 80 a few hundred thousand times.

RIAA has similar strategy.

u obviously got the point. that is why i wrote: patch it up to be mozilla
u r the kind of peeps i wud take advice from.
Try all those web servers on the Internet. Apache servers outnumber IIS servers by a big margin, and most of them run Linux.
Most, not all, viruses require user intervention to spread. How many Linux desktops are there vs. Microsoft desktops?
Unfortunately, with columns like this one blaming the worm on "some ticked-off Linux fan", it needs to be said.

Heres a picture anyway.. I'm sure the videos out there somwhere.

I thought everyone must've seen that by now. It was pretty funny.

By that logic, Windows is undoubtedly the best OS on the market (for home/personal use).
:)
I'm sure that any real poll conducted would agree with that. Money talks.. bullshit usually ends up half finished on sourceforge.
No, not at all. The superior picture will be the one that looks the best with the given paint. Each kind of paint (console) has advantages & disadvantages -- there is no perfect paint, because they have different attributes which make them all good.
Sony must use some very jaggy paint.
Who cares what the developers think? The Xbox is definitely not the favorite console of the people playing games.

Even an AC can repost something and get +4? That's pretty scary.
