  1. Jersey Shore, South. on Recession Cuts Operation That Uses Hair To Clean Up Oil · · Score: 2, Funny

If we use those hair mats, not only will we have an oil spill, we'll have a greasy hair spill. The gulf coast would henceforth be known as Jersey Shore, South.

  2. How about "obliterated"? on Child's Play Breaks a Million Bucks · · Score: 1

The reason "decimated" is the wrong word in this article is because there is a perfectly good, perfectly correct word to use. This word is "obliterated," and it means completely destroyed.

  3. Re:Yeah for the raccoons on Supreme Court to Rule On 'Obvious' Patents · · Score: 1

The real question isn't "how come you didn't think of it" but rather "why would you bother to think it". Not all topics are worth thinking about, even if they are original. Originality has to surpass obviousness to a certain degree, but can't be the only criteria for granting a patent. I could patent frosted flakes with bits of dried asparagus if originality were the only criterion.

  4. Re:Tor on Dissidents Seeking Anonymous Web Solutions? · · Score: 1

I use Tor, and the latest version is very stable. Yes, your browsing and IM will be slower... but for a "dissident", that is probably fine. Now if you are a terrorist-that-kills-innocent-people type, don't use Tor. Write everything in clear text, an include accurate translations to English of everything you do.

  5. Ikscheltaschel? on Ask mc chris · · Score: 1

Are you hearing (www.)ikscheltaschel(.com)? These guys are off the chain! Would you consider touring with them?

  6. Like Importing Canadian Drugs into the US on Music Site AllofMP3 Under Investigation · · Score: 1

If US-made drugs are cheaper to buy from Canada, why is it illogical that US-made music might be cheaper to buy from Russia? I don't think it is so "obvious" as some people claim that this is at all illegal.

And with regard to that copying vs. importing argument: try to argue to some federal judge that you weren't "exporting" encryption technology to Iran, you were only copying it, so the laws against exporting this technology weren't broken... See my point?

  7. Elektra? The Aviator? on MGM's DVD Class Action Settlement · · Score: 1

Did you look at the list??? I scanned it quickly, and noticed that Elektra and The Aviator are on there... and there's probably more films currently in theatrical release. They wouldn't be fishing for pirates, would they?

  8. Will a 10% Human have to accept Jesus 10% on Human Animal Hybrid Created in Lab · · Score: 1

Like the paradox of the pile of sand (i.e. how many grains do you remove before a pile of sand is not a pile), you must evaluate the issue of human-ness of these chimera as a continuum between human and not-human. This must lead the religious to question things from their own perspective.

From what I understand, to the religious, a "soul" cannot exist as a continuum between "soul" and "not-soul". I see this as a problem for those that believe that a deity "deposits" a "soul" into a human body at some point. It was a bad enough problem for the single-egged twin situation - division after fertilization, hence after the assignment of a soul. But now, will we have hu-mouses that have to accept Jesus as their personal savior (or eat a cracker and drink some special wine) to get into heaven?

  9. My Vote Counts on 2004 Election Weirdness Continues · · Score: 5, Insightful

I only get one vote. Just like everyone else. I absolutely need to know that my one vote counts and has been counted. It is that simple. There is no just concept where "most" votes count.

I am floored at the number of /. apologists with regard to this topic. The software development community should be outraged that systems that are fundamentally supposed to do ADDITION are not doing so in a reliable, secure manner. If we can't secure ADDITION, then what can we secure?! There are people in my professional community that should be profoundly ashamed at the results of their incompetence.

  10. Make This a Req. For Political Contributions on ATM For Anonymous Online Payments · · Score: 1

Maybe this system can become a requirement for political contributions. Give anyone you support any amount of money, or just claim that you did. Anonymous contributions woul take the "money talks" power of individuals away since no politician will know exactly where the money came from. Perhaps to make it more secure, force delivery into even-sized chunks over a period of time... obfuscating particularly large contributions, so that you can't tell who contributed by just seeing how much they did. Perhaps throttle the delivery of the money. This would be awesome for the US political scene.
