Well, that's mainly because the dialog, lighting and staging is just too horrible for words.
Proper BBC shows (and earlier Dr. Who series) were a lot better than this.

Being 6'4, I generally find though that it's the smaller people (aside from tall ones) that I get along best with. It's the medium heights that react to height in the ways you (and grandparent poster) described.
