Mplayer - Distibuted as MPF on windows, it's not _that_ user friendly, but it plays everything under the sun.
MediaPlayerClassic - Hosted at sourceforge, this recreates the WMP 6 UI and has pretty solid playback. Friendlier than Mplayer, but a tad less solid video playback.
VLC - yup the one and truly. Not too user friendly.
Exactly. The excerpt is such a pure flame it's rediculous.
Why can't we keep it a healthy, friendly competition? Having AbiWord, KOffice and OOo all competing with each other (and, to a lesser extent, with MS Office) is only good. The main reason OOo's grammar checking might be behind is the fact that Star Office already had one...!
True. I'm teaching a beginner how the 'internet' and 'e-mail' work (no, I'm not going to explain that both the web and email are a subset of the many internets;).....and OH MY GOODNESS, it'd be so much easier to have her using a mouse with just one button. I recently had to explain why a rightclick produces a menu but you have to click that menu with the left.
Heh, next month I'm getting a 20/1mbit ADSL 2+ connection. It's been widely available for about half a year now.
The two technologies involved seem to be ADSL 2+ and VDSL. They both have their merits but ADSL 2+ can be rolled out by upgrading current ADSL 1 instalations. VDSL however requires Fiber-to-the-street, thus requiring a much larger investment.
Of course, in rural areas both technologies require a high investment, so don't hold your breath for any dsl; WiMax seems to be a more cost efficient choice there.
Well said.
I can't begin to imagine why.
We have the birth of a new slashdot meme!
I've been waiting for this to hit for a while now :)
They've got to keep it from becoming just a fragfest though...historically, games with a tad of strat mixed in do best (counter-strike!).
Thing is, the guy (original one anyway) lives in Germany.
....Gone before mere mortals can say click!
1 down, 599 to go!
You're not the only one. I, for one, am sick of Russell Davies' way of breaking everything down into cheesy plotblobs...bleh!
"Only this time he is the lawyer..."
Coming to a theater near you soon!

Oh right, just like the US can censor pretty much everything by just saying: "But think about the children!"
Just another example of Google taking over the Internets!
*RUN*
Me too!*
*You all, like, do totally get this ROFL, right?
This kind of protectionism keeps prices artificially high and shafts poorer countries.
It also weakens your own economy, but that's another story.
OMG! A global company is hiring people globaly!
People really, really need to put this into perspective.

I was lost for words.

It's infact damn near impossible to filter them, as they use legit methods (e.g. simply a div with a higher z-index).
You couldn't really block high z-index without hurting a lot of normal websites too - especially in the future (when css3 will be fully supported).
This article simply gives some facts about how much ATi 'spent' on Half-Life 2.
However, how much the gain was is just speculation, but that there was a gain is sure.
The real winner here is Valve, of course.
A large, but cross-platform program with lean (mostly) platform independant code has been ported to Yet Another Platform(tm)!
Anyway, cudos to Apple for pointing Josh into the right direction.
What we've got is a hole in Paypal's hand.
Are you kidding? 28 Days later was great! There's another story about it at MacWorld if you want to read more.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! Not that joke again!
a nice reference to those who came before them
Yup! Incredibles!
