You have to understand: Rei is a Tesla zealot and a Musk fanboy. He was fed a line that Tesla was going to take over car production because they were "smarter" and could use "Agile methods" and "automation" to out produce everyone. It was a line that many of tech people fell for as well, because they assume building anything is just like building software and websites. At the beginning they were bleating about how revolutionary the Tesla production lines were. They counted every robot shipped to the factories. Turned out that automation didn't work. So Tesla built tents and hired a ton of people to assemble their cars, just like the "legacy" manufacturers. Now the zealots are convinced that Tesla has some sort of magic battery chemistry and an AI chip. They are also convinced in a Moores Law of battery density is guaranteed to happen. The truth is we are likely within 30% of what we can get out of battery storage density. That will be plenty for many uses, but will never supplant all ICE.
You missed "Tesla makes cars for the 0.001%". You didn't mention it on your list because it is true. A Tesla is a toy for the 0.001% that is used to virtue signal that you "care about the environment". Meanwhile, cars are the very antithesis of being green no matter how they are fueled.
Not really. Tesla is a "tech" company. Tech companies have been moving away from the "you own it" model of business to the "you rent it". I would expect Tesla to oppose this.
You mean the teens going up the stairs to the roof? They don't look black, they look white to me, but no matter what race I would think it is pretty suspicious for a group of boys to go up to a roof in the middle of winter. The comment on the photo didn't even mention race - they just said "gang members". Why do you think that was what prompted the photo? That is the problem with SJW, they see race and gender as the main driving force.
Yeah, I mean I get it. If there is racial abuse on there then they should remove it, but they didn't show any examples. How do they even know the race of the people who are commenting?
I read the entire (badly written) article and I don't understand what the complaint is. They didn't even give examples of people using racist comments? Example: "One post on Neighbors' “Watchlist,” which is hand-selected by Ring employees and appears at the top of the app, shows a black man stealing a package from a door step. Neighbor41 wrote, “Hope they put his ass in rikers, share a room with 50 other criminals. Oh, and one toilet.” A reply from Neighbor64 implied that he hopes the person gets raped."
Um, ok? Is it racist because of his skin color? Millennials are confusing.
Most Slashdotters think things are simple, because they have never built anything for the real world. They are only used to software, which is easily changeable.
Right. Because the companies paying the carbon tax would just swallow the cost and not pass on the cost to the consumer. But at least we get a check every month.
That isn't what he was saying. He was saying that in ten years (1999) it would be too late to solve the greenhouse effect and after that the greenhouse effect is out of human control. So according to him (and the experts) it is too late to do anything about it. We had the chance 20 years ago, but it too late now.
That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Methane hydrate releases are not because of a single "hot summer". The risk is if the warming continues over a period of 100 years or more the release would be significant. If it was as you described we would all be dead already because there are plenty of "hot summers".
"Noel Brown, director of the New York office of the U.N. Environment Program, or UNEP, said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control."
Written in 1989. We are too late already. I hope Musk gets his stainless steel rocket ready soon. I heard it fell over in the wind, but I am sure it will be up to the task of getting us off this planet.
I should have been more specific. When I say "recently" I mean recently in evolutionary timescales. For most of history (pre-Roman, etc), humans died in their 30s, even if they made it through childhood. I sincerely doubt women raising extended family until their old age had anything to do with it.

I think mods thought he was kidding. It turns out he is just very dumb. Most Tesla zealots are.
The flaw is that battery density isn't going to double every seven years. Not going to happen. You guys were spoiled by transistor technology.

Who cares? There is money to be made.
Good point. SpaceX is owned by an ex-Paypal executive.

Definitely vile. But welcome to the Interet.

Yeah, they should learn to code and then they can work for themselves.
Most Slashdotters think things are simple, because they have never built anything for the real world. They are only used to software, which is easily changeable.
Ah a technocrat on Slashdot. How original. It doesn't matter if it is good or not, as long as it is "new tech".

Tesla owners.

Only in Silicon Valley is borrowing money to get you into more debt, considered raising your "valuation". No website is worth $3B. It is a website.
Why don't YOU explain it, since you are the only one who understands what you are asking? Try to do it without using the words "Electric Universe".
Oh really? Welcome to Slashdot, where idiots dispute facts that they can easily look up.
If women figure out you they can buy jar opening tools we are in big trouble.
True, men do sometimes think with other parts of their body. Maybe that is why that part is so wrinkly?
