    it's right in the reply: use InnoDB by default. or how about this, don't forget to set the transaction flag. it's not rocket science and these aren't valid complaints either. it's just mindless MySQL bashing because "it doesn't work as I expect it to by default and I can't be bothered to tune".

    because there I was hand-holding him through two (XP & OSX) ftp client installs.

    in XP it would have been easier to just type ftp ://username@ftpserver.com in the Explorer address bar. I expect such an advanced OS as OSX to have similar functionality out of the box.

    in nerd circles this might also be considered as a reference to BASIC variable notation. also, Torvalds/SUSE never got convicted under anti-turst laws and they dont have the reputaton of money grabbing bitches Microsoft has.

    I guess it's like with soylent cola -- the taste varies from person to person. I've been enjoying it all the way, through Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox and now 2.0. The only things that caused grief were fucked extensions, not the browser itself.

    I'll be switching back to 1.5 as soon as I find a mirror to get the old version from.

    You're also missing the annoying UI design and worse performance.

    I agree that the UI is not the most pretty thing ever envisioned (why does everyone go for ROUND shit now? let me guess, the UI designers have Macs) but performance wise it got better. also it's more stable and the integrated session management allows you to get rid of all the clunky extensions that tried to provide sessions (along with the kitchen sink)

    there's also tabbed browsing improvements and other features. GP, check the changelogs.

    Testing with Lynx is actually quite a good idea. Not only will you make sure that blind people can see your site, you can also confirm the complexity of your website and how easily information can be found from there.

    you've maid about three posts whining about how expensive mobiles are. we get it. you're not fond of mobiles. how about this: get someone to send you an invite if you really want GMail, or just use another mail provider if it's not worth the hassle. Google products are not mandatory on teh internets.

    and as the article states, and several other posters have mentioned, the service is now open for the masses. it may just take a while until the changes propagate to all the gajillions of servers.

    I think Wikipedia is on several mysql servers simultaneously (not to mention well over a hundred http and squid servers). But I don't know the technical details.
