Are you seriously complaining that you can't buy something from Walmart when you are shopping at Safeway.
To purchase something from Walmart you need to be in Walmart.
Microsoft already has control over a large majority of the cameras on the internet. They could probably get the laptop webcam to turn on without the light beside it turning on and we have yet to hear about them trying anything there.
I'd like to see a rig where they cause multiple computers running one browser each loading the page in the same way versus each of the objects. Or see if lightning could cook a potato before a historic browser finishes rendering.
One thing that does surprise me is that I have yet to get fingerprinted / eye-scanned while travelling from Canada to the US. I am on my second NAFTA work permit for occasional work in the states and in the past 2 years on about 20 trips half personal and half work related I have not once been fingerprinted or eye scanned. Sometimes I wonder if it is because of the work permit, but when travelling with my family for personal business they don't get scanned either.
I guess that should teach me to read before I link. That one will play Blu-Ray ISOs with it's firmware update. I haven't tried the iso yet but it has played every other file type I've thrown it's way.
If thats the case they must not have heard of devices like the Patriot Box Office which will stream a Blu-Ray iso from your computer. Devices like this are definitely cheaper than whatever they will be charging for the new burners when they come out.
The last time I even bothered looking into it, which was probably 5 years ago, they were selling music and data CDs as separate products and the levy only applied to music CDs and not data CDs.
A friend and I were out at Ikea buying some furniture and as we it onto the cart he drops it on his foot and says "Fuck!" Some lady we hadn't seen up to that point says "Excuse me, there are children here." My friend turns around and as politely as possible and says, "The world isn't censored"
My point being that more people need to realize that the world isn't censored, it will never be possible to censor the world and if you want your kids to not swear you need to teach them it is something you don't like so that they learn to hide the fact that they swear like a trucker when you aren't around.
I'm pretty sure that is impossible to build effective age restrictions into the internet. The one article mentions that some of the worlds set it up so that if you enter a birthday that says you are too young they block you from creating an account with a different birthday from the same computer. This only hurts households with multiple users and only needs to happen on one world for the kids to learn that they need to enter that they are over the legal age the first time.
If the only way across state lines was to drive 200 mph then a speed limit of 60 mph would be denying your right to travel anywhere in the states (if driving were the only form of travel) and as such that speed limit would be illegal.
I like to imagine that drivers in North America are so horrible because of the hideously low level of skill needed to obtain a driving license along with the relatively affordable fines for things. If there were real mandatory training classes along with harsh punishments for driving unsafely I think that the level of driving would improve a lot. It is unlikely to happen with cars as seen currently but if they were to start a system like that for flying cars when invented they could change the culture of drivers then.
I think the most likely outcome of that situation is the C-level audience realizing that they can offer you much less than you're asking for and you'll accept as your company can not afford the unsubsidized Macbook.
Seriously, the USERS decide which search engine is best, not the website owners.
Users have decided that google is the best search engine because the sites they want to go to are at the top of the search results. Paying the sites at the top of the search results to delist from google would make it so that google is no longer the best search engine in the eye of the users
I think that this idea is much too late to work but it is an interesting idea.
From what I remember the hacks weren't done by arbitrarily executing code, they were done by changing the game code itself. Modding the console made it so that the console didn't check to make sure that the game was the same as it was on the disk.
*Think of the hot coffee mod, it required changing a boolean value in the game from false to true. I do admit it is much easier to modify a boolean and keep things signed properly than to add in a whole hack, but it would be pretty easy to do something like modify your running speed, or disable clipping as well.
I don't know much about the 360 modding scene, but for the original xbox there was a lot of cheating if you played using the alternative to live. The reason a lot of people were using that alternative was so the could cheat. This leads to believe that it could be possible to cheat if you have a modded console.
The biggest reason I can think of to at least try out the new technology a little bit, is that it can help with your option a. That is knowing a little bit about the different technology options will allow you to make better decisions when you need to choose which technology will best solve your current problem.
I do agree though that there is no reason to become an expert at every new technology for fear of dropping behind the curve.
