Well, I don't really see where your aggressive-sounding post is coming from, since I don't personally run any websites, it was just a casual observation. Just to point out though, you would post a website's content on another website's forum, a forum that would probably require registration anyway?

  2. Regarding #4 on Websites That Don't Need to Be Made Anymore · · Score: 1

I agree with most of them, but #4 (requiring users to register) is pretty much absolutely essential for a web site to have "stickiness": keeping the user coming back for more. How is a website supposed to customize itself to a specific user's tastes without having users first register?

Slashdot runs on Slashcode (http://www.slashcode.com/). If you want to, you can change the appearance of it with skins and whatnot. I would also recommend Drupal (http://www.drupal.org/ and Zope (http://www.zope.org/). Hire somebody to create a nice skin for it, and any one of the above systems should be able to neatly handle the backend work.

I've offered him $300, which I think is a fair price, but he's holding out for a multithousand dollar offer, which is extremely doubtful, considering the domain name. (not posting the domain name so he isn't warned) Anyway, to keep On Topic, try using Snapnames.com to retrieve the domain when it expires, or try suing them. 12. Watched it for hours.... on Kerry Concedes Election To Bush · · Score: 1

I watched the entire election from 6 PM to 2 AM (Central). Kerry was looking good when Pennsylvania got called for Bush, but really, Florida and Ohio started breaking towards Bush fairly early. Unless there's massive voter fraud in both states, Bush wins easily.

Obama (in the Illinois race) won easily; he was always going to win easily. I'm a Illinoisian Democrat (don't mod me down), born and bred, and even I thought the coverage of him was a bit too much. Obama was polling something like 70-30 against Keyes, he was enormously popular.

And what was up with CNN? They didn't call Washington and Oregon for Kerry for hours after all the other networks called it. Foxnews actually got a lot right.

And for future elections, here's a tip for everybody: throw a small party. Order pizza, hot wings, breadsticks, etc, and make sure to invite friends from both parties. The happiness level in the room will always stay constant. Here's my reasoning: In the beginning, both the Democratic and Republican supporters will be expectant, a little pessimistic, all sorts of emotions. That's the baseline. Then, as the night goes on and one candidate is pulling away from each other, the supporters of that candidate will be way more happier, and the supporters of the person losing will be (can anyone guess?) much less so. So they even each other out. And it really helps prevent the supporters of the losing dude from sulking too much.

I believe the main problem with autotargeting domains that are advertised is what happens when the target server is being hijacked, or it's a server that someone wants offlined? So the guy that runs this site visits each domain advertised in spam, makes sure it's a legit spam site, and then lists the server on his Commando main server. Client programs grab the list, and hit the targeted domains repeatedly.
