    However, since it opened in 1998, Google has added portal-style discussion groups and is testing a comparison shopping site called Froogle, as well as a news site.

    Is that really a "discussion groups" section as much as Google's newsgroup browser? It's not really a Google service as much as a Google interface to a web-wide service.

    So what's wrong if Google becomes a portal? I certainly see enough people complaining about it. As long as the search engine still works pretty well...
    As for "locking in" users, I would hardly compare this to the wonderful lock-in schemes we've seen out of Redmond.
    Google email... would that mean that they parse my text and attach a keyword-based ad to it? :)

    Whiner. I was stuck on an old fuzzy Gateway 2000 14" SVGA for far much, much longer than I should have been... the torture! :)
    Then I bought a Samsung 950p (19" goodness). And my current roommate has a NEC MultiSync 1765 (17" flat, stylish, and good-looking).
    Forget 61" TVs, I just want a 38" LCD monitor at >= 72dpi and I'll be good. :)

    It may turn out that Alzheimer's is due to mad cow, or its predecessor, mad sheep (scrapie). There is little to no chance that alzheimers is caused by mad-cow. Is it a related disease? Perhaps. The same disease? Not a chance.
    The simplest assumption would be that there is far more mad cow in the system than anyone wants to say
    This is stupid. The *simplest* assumption is that there is no mad cow in the system, and to assume that the above is an insane conspiracy theory. Perhaps the fact that there is no known mad cow in the system holds less weight with you than it should.

    My IBM ThinkPad R40 launches Knoppix just fine, and the local computer science department is going to be giving me a hard drive upgrade to dual-boot once I get into the CSC 112 class.
    I have run into precisely two faults with my Knoppix games. One, it won't speak to the integrated modem (now that I'm back in the dorm with my LAN connection, not an issue!) Two, I can't turn off the touchpad (sorry, I prefer the TrackPoint and keep brushing up against the touchpad irregularly).

    In any case, what is *sad* to see is all my access logs with 5kr1p+ k1dd135 trying to break into my system by using some IIS exploit... =b

    Well, it's not *too* badly organized... I'm no neat freak myself, when it comes to hard drives or to my dorm. And Winamp3 *is* about the crappiest item they saw fit to burden me with. The rest I just tended to ignore...

    My mom (silly mommy!) got me Civ II: Test of Time for my birthday. I figured I'd go poke my way through it. The case contained the CD and a note saying that the manual was available online. Unfortunately, the link is broken and there's no sign of contact information, in sight or otherwise. =b
