He's a fascist because he told me to keep my opinions to myself.
They deserve respect? Sure. As much as I respect any other human being. I don't respect the US military at all, especially weekenders, . The guys who serve 24/7 have inadequate training, so guys who only serve every other weekend are going to be abysmal.
So, did Stalin deserve respect for his commitment to Russia?

Please. Ideology doesn't count for squat outside of the linux world. People don't choose software through political preference - they want software that works for them, not against. Linux is too much hassle for most people. Windows is right there, and you know it'll do exactly what you want, with no fussing. Linux is an unknown quantity for most people, and quite rightly so.
Because the entire army was disbanded, flooding Iraq with lots of unemployed, hungry, angry men.

Here's a crazy idea - instead of disbanding the Iraqi Army (which was comprised of many thousands of Iraqis who didn't exactly like Saddam Hussein), they could have used the army to rebuild their own country! What a strange idea! Oh wait... Halliburton and the Carlyle group wouldn't get paid billions of dollars for installing draught excluders.
Short of that, most countries have decent engineers in their army (apart form the US, who just have more guys who can shoot indiscriminatly at things that move) - they could rebuild a good portion of the infrastructure.
The whole Iraq mess is exactly that - a mess. Highly predictable, and stinky. Linux isn't going to help anyone, especially as you can buy a pirated copy of windows from any computer shop for $20, which plays games and videos out of the box.
But they're some of the most dense people you'll ever hope to meet. Running around with next to no training. They're more dangerous to the people around them than terrorists.
Not being able to criticise someone due to someone else's ideas about that person is ridiculous. I thought America was the home of the free? Thanks for proving otherwise. Keep your fascism to yourself, please.
The 3,000 dead on 9/11 died in a single incident, 3 years ago. Those who died in Afghanistan and Iraq died at American hands. I stand by my point - what age of terrorism?
If the war on terrorism was about decreasing terrorism, the US wouldn't have invaded Iraq. Iraq had nothing to do with any terrorism, but they did have plenty of oil. You figure it out. You have to be seriously missing the plot if you can't understand it.
No, because it appears like they're actually doing some good. Just like when they had the national guard monkeys running around with M16s. Absolutely no use whatsoever, but makes the American public go "Gee - we're so protected! I love our President(tm)!"
The war on terror isn't about the terrorists, it's all PR.
And internet access would help that how? Bearing in mind most people don't even have mains electricity, let alone a computer. Sheesh. People are dying now. Internet isn't going to help anyone out of that.
And one could argue the best way to help people in Zimbabwe is to jump around on one leg shouting "I am the food master!" - it doesn't mean it would work. Political change doesn't instantly give food to people, and it doesn't happen in an instant. People are dying now. Cheap pr0n and access to hotmail aren't going to feed them.
Right. Because a company is going to invest millions in developing a computer that no-one wants to buy, except you and your mates.
I'm all for linux on the desktop, but I can't stand all this "it's just round the corner!" nonsense. linux has come a long way, but it's still MILES away from mainstream. The only people who turn to it do so because it's cheap, not because of any ideology. Certainly not because linux is "cool". People want to run office and play games. OpenOffice is good, but not as fast or as compatible as MSOffice. Games on linux are terrible. Multimedia support is also not as polished as windows.
Don't get me wrong - I'll be singing from the rooftops when linux gets a decent foothold, but a small motherboard and pretty PC are the least of linux's worries at the moment. Disparate development, in-fighting and overlapping of resources are more of a problem. Everyone needs to pull together and stop re-inventing the wheel by writing another mp3 player for linux. Microsoft has great power because it pulls together as one organisation. every linux developer around the world has their own agenda, and that means lots and lots of wasted time and resources. The only way linux will reach the mainstream is if a company steps in to invest millions in pulling it round to a single destination. It's hardly rocket science.
'America' is a continent. What you're describing as "America" is actually called "The United States of America", as they are the a unity of states within America. Saying Mexico and Canada aren't parts of America is like saying France and Germany aren't parts of Europe.
Geography isn't a strong point in the US, so I'm sure you'll be forgiven:-P
You don't have the right to life in the US. No medical insurance? You'll die in hospital, surrounded by great doctors who won't lift a finger to help you. Another reason the US is the largest hypocrisy in the world, yet people still keep banging on about how good it is. Americans are easily fooled, it seems.
You don't think that someone travelling on a plane is the business of the airline? Wow. If you had people staying over at your house, would you be freaked if they only gave you false names?
You're slightly mistaken. America has always been, and always will be, the land of the FREE RICH WHITE GUYS. Seriously. If you were black between '68 and '89, you were screwed. Same if you were poor. If you were black and poor, forget it.
I'm really annoyed that people think of the US with glossy eyes, saying it's the best thing ever, when really it's pretty crappy with a good PR machine. I still can't believe everyone's still falling for it. I can go on for hours and hours as to why the US isn't the land of the free, but doing so on here (or in the US) gets you called a troll/commie/pinko/leftist/marxist/whatever.
Not being funny, but they're microsoft. They've spent millions on developing computer hardware and software. I'm not being rude, but I'm pretty sure they've thought of that already.
When you're going to be dead in 3 days from starvation, trickle-down economics means jack. Sure, teaching someone to fish is better than feeding them, but again, if they're on the brink of death, Fishing 101 isn't going to help.
Getting Africa online won't do anything for the starvation. Opressive governments and corrupt beaurocrats means any aid or money going to Africa is quickly syphoned off into their pockets. Giving them free porn while they do it isn't helping the millions of Africans slowly dying as we speak.
How about cheap food in Africa, before cheap internet? After all, many people in Africa are hungry, few are wondering what geeks think about star trek.
There's a difference between a right to free speech and a right to make people listen to what you're saying. WhenU.com are thinking of the latter, rather than the former. They have a right to be able to sell whatever they want, but not force it on people.
Overclocking doesn't matter to most people. The processor speeds aren't that big a deal. I had some temperature issues on my P4E (prescott - no surprise), so I dropped the clock speed down to 2.6 from 3.2, and I could hardly tell the difference. It's still zippy as all hell (SATA hard disk and DDR ram probably has something to do with that). The CPU is no longer the speed bottleneck it used to be, so squeezing performance out of it isn't important.
And I'd like to bring my posse to work too. T-Bone and 8-ball can hang out in other people's cubicles smoking blunts, sipping gin'n'juice and offing anyone from accounts.
Dogs in the office?? Have you thought about the consequences? How much productivity is going to be lost when it craps on the carpet, or throws up on an external client? People (to some extent) you can control. A fluffy, stupid mammal you can not. Sure it's nice for you, but granted everyone else will hate your dog. It doesn't matter if it's lassie, and regularly saves people from mineshafts. A dog in the office will only serve to distract those around it. And make the carpet smell funny.

Before the PATRIOT act, maybe. Now, a fed can walk into your house and take whatever they want, without a good reason. Makes you think, huh?
