There's a difference between taxes that pay for stupidity and taxes that pay for essential life-supporting services. You pay less tax in the US, and get less for it. No free healthcare, crappy public transport, crappy schools, expensive medicines, etc. In Canada and Eudope, you pay more, but if you're hit by a bus you'll go to hospital and get treated, not stuck in a waiting room until someone can fax through a copy of your medical insurance documentation (if you have any, otherwise they just wheel you round by the dumpsters and leave you with a newspaper).

The new hummer is lucky to get 2mpg let alone 8. They have an incredibly underpowered engine on an old chassis. All that bodywork and pseudoarmy look means terrible mpg. Well, if you drive a hummer, that's the last thing you should worry about.
It's not in the wild. It's really simple - I figured if anyone wanted to use it, they could just write it themselves:-P I'd have to do too much work on it to make sure it doesn't destroy anyone's computer, and I'm rather busy at the moment;)
I wrote a simple PHP script to rip the tunes off the iPod. It parses the iTunesDB file for the song information, and copies the MP3s off into a artist/album directory structure, renaming the MP3s properly and re-writing complete ID3v2 tags. It works on linux, windows and macs.
And those PDAs at a similar price range have how much storage? Certainly not 40gigs... That's the killer part about the iPod - sheer storage space, in such a small form. PDAs can't compete with that, as they have so much extra hardware in them. It all takes up space.
The flaws in the iPod (which, btw?) are not enough to stop it being one hell of a useful tool. I'm an IT guy/developer-type and I use it to take gigs of stuff to the office and back, and play me music on the way. PDAs aren't good for that at all:)

America needs more oil. China is using up more and more, and the US is heavily dependent. Of course Bush is going to try and secure oil. There is absolutely no evidence for Saddam Hussein to be more of a threat to anyone else than any random country, yet we invade him. He just happens to have one of the largest oil reserves in the world. It's hardly a big coincidence. How Americans can put up with his bullshit is beyond me.

It is very hard to believe Iraq was a danger to the world. It had ridiculous weapons, a tiny army, and a leader hated by its military. It was as threatening as a dead bluebottle. If you can't see that, you've been suckered in by the pentagon, or you just missed the entire story.
Can you give specific examples of Saddam Hussein sponsoring terrorism? I guarantee you I can find even more showing Bush's support for terrorism...
By invading Iraq he's turned it into a hotbet of terrorist activity. He actively made the world a more dangerous place. That was the only possible outcome of the action. That man did not have an alterior reason for what he did - it was oil, plain and simple. I mean, why else would you send hundreds of thousands of troops into a country to fight a war everyone's saying can't be won, against international will, which will obviously and eventually worsen the very cause you say you're fighting for? If it wasn't for oil, Bush is quite likely the very stupidest individual the world has ever seen, let alone president. Sheesh.
With OpenOffice you just have to worry if your files are usable by anyone you send them to.
OpenOffice doesn't run on "far more" platforms. Windows makes up the vast majority, so adding a tiny bit more to that isn't "far more" than windows, just a "few more". Let's not get overly emotive with our language:)

The software's in firmware, so you'd have to be pretty clued-in on the procedure. It sounds like a great way to ruin an iPod :-P

Actually, "America" is a continental land mass, split into north and south. It can't be a hemisphere, as it's not as big as half the world.
