I'm not sure I want my genes decoded. It would be interesting, and might turn up some possible health issues before they become a serious problem, but I don't think it would do me any good if that data fell into the hands of my insurer or the government, or even some group I haven't imagined that hates one of my ancestors or something.
WangScript? Some mIRC script that I've never heard of? How about telling us if he had any ties to Wang Labs, the 80s powerhouse, or to the Wang VS mainframes?
If you've seen an XP laptop fail to wake up from standby, you can probably blame it on buggy drivers.
This is common on Macs running OS9 and OSX, with certain processor upgrades or PCI cards, too. Getting Linux boxes to handle standby properly can sometimes be a challenge, although drivers may not be the problem there.
Statistically speaking, it's likely that a sizable percentage of these students download copyrighted material from the Internet. Do you think any of them are concerned about IP rights then?"
"...it's likely that..." is not speaking statistically. Yes, I think that some of them really are concerned about IP rights. I also think it's likely that some of them don't even download copyrighted material off the internet illegally.
You're absolutely right. I actually SkimmedTFA, and the figure is 450M raysegs/S. "Interesting" means 30fps at 1 megapixel and 15 raysegs per pixel. Frankly, I don't find 1 megapixel all that interesting. I want graphics at my LCDs native 1600x1200, nearly 2 megapixels (and that desire will change when I'm forced to buy a 16x9 monitor some day). 1 megapixel should be a bit below 1280x1024, but better than 1024x768.
That don't befund me none when I have an Archos Jukebox Recorder v2. I hope GM forms a similar partnership with Rockbox. Actually, I don't really care because I won't be able to afford a new car anytime in the foreseeable future.:P
I don't think he could have released the video. As I understand it, the police seized the tape when he brought it to them (he should've copied it first), then came to his house and ripped the cameras off the walls.
They still haven't returned the cameras (or the tape, I think) and they still maintain that he broke the law (maybe they're right, but if so, that law is despicable and just wrong).
They say he was disrespectful to them. That may be, but they still owe him a public apology for what they did.
Thank you for the follow-up! I'll have to take a look at what you wrote about SA when I get home. It might be fun to try out OSBF-lua, but I've already got SA set up and running, and time is fleeting.:)
I swear they're actively trying to obfuscate their results! I skimmed through the conclusions section of the paper and I couldn't figure out which filter won. It's clear that DSPAM and CRM-114 didn't perform as well as the rest. CRM-114 might approach the level of the winner(s) after a couple years of training, but it didn't get that much training in their test. I don't see anything about which package worked best, though. What a waste of my time...almost like spam!
I got my first Mac a couple months ago (a G4 Gigabit Ethernet, soon followed by a Quicksilver 2002). The computers and OS are neat, but the RDF and blind PC bashing of the Mac owners I've corresponded with often makes me want to run for the hills. If you want the rest of the world to join you in OS X, chill out a bit!
Also, poking around in the Powermac cases quickly reveals why they cost so much: multiple layers of steel and plastic when I'd be perfectly happy with a cheaper and just-as-functional beige box, needlessly complex latching mechanism, sound-deadening gasket between panels (and the top panel still buzzes and rattles if I put the computer in certain spots on my desk). Everyone raves about Apple styling, but it's only cosmetic, and it comes at a steep price. The aftermarket gouges you on Mac-specific accessories, too.
They are nice computers. For now, I'll keep one foot in the Apple world, one in the Windows world, and one in the Linux world.
Sometimes it's good to have a manager who doesn't know much about what you do. On the other hand, it's nice to be able to brainstorm with my boss when I'm stumped on a project.
While I don't doubt that my government has sinister motives when they monitor sites like Youtube, they'd be stupid if they didn't try to find out about the next Abu Ghraib pictures as soon as possible so they can try to deal with it before the feces hits the rotary oscillator.
Maybe you just grew up? Hollywood has churned out tons of crap since before I was born, but I gobbled it up happily when I was a kid. Take Moonraker, for example. Most people seem to agree that it was perhaps the worst of the Bond movies, but I loved it when I saw it in the theater. I think I was about 14 then.
There were some legitimate gems over the years, but they were in the minority. Movies from other countries expand your options, but they aren't necessarily any better or worse than Hollywoods offerings.
I don't run an ISP, and I don't have experience with the control panels mentioned, but I am running ISPConfig and I think it belongs on this list of control panels. It's hard for me to offer intelligent comments about it when I have nothing to compare it to, and I still struggle with Linux sometimes. The documentation can't keep up with updates in the various software it uses, but in the end, it works, and it looks pretty slick to my eyes. The authors are, so far, very responsive to emails, too.
I apologize for going off on a tangent, but does anyone know if there's a meaning behind the colors of the letters in Google's logo? They don't follow the Roy G. Biv rule... Together, they fight crime and rescue tree-bound kittens.
I love Mythbusters, but I always forgot who's who. Which one wears the beret?
I believe showbiz companies are crooks and owe me one billion dollars,.
Absolutely! And how about a link to the original page? How can we come up with good tags if we don't know what we're looking at?
Ah. I should've picked that up from the parent post. Thank you!
What was the backdoor password? Jeremy?

Sure, blame the engineers for political corruption. Why not?
I hear a lot of sellers and buyers saying that eBay isn't what it once was, and that it's too easy to get screwed on either side of the transaction.
So, I ask you former eBay merchants: where have you moved to?
And where are you finding bargains as buyers?

Video games are virtual terrorist training camps! We should invade at once!
My best friend back then had a few of those books. I had no idea they were something new back then!
I didn't realize that bacteria committed suicide, but it makes sense. I don't think they'd have the heart to kill bacteria in Vermont.
