HECs are not exactly lightweight -- the one on the linked page weighs in at 218K... I was thinking that the files may be large, but they're highly compressible, but you hit on a good point. On my 933MHz PowerPC G4 running Firefox 2 it's not terribly slow, but it's definitely slower than any other captcha I've seen. It's an interesting technique, in any case.
I don't want something that slices and dices and washes my clothes, and, oh, by the way, it might get me to work, too. Quit adding boatloads of crap to cars! Well, okay, add the crap, just make it optional, 'cuz I don't want it.
Would anyone with half a brain click on a goatse link at work without knowing what they'd get? Just like you don't open any old email attachment, you don't click on any old link people send you!
...gone the way of the cobbler, the blacksmith and the Dodo.
Huh? Dodos are extinct, but we still have cobblers and blacksmiths. Ask a motorcyclist where he (or she) goes to get his boots repaired.
I still wear a watch. When I go for a walk, the only electronics I carry with me is my camera, which doesn't work well for telling time. In my car, the radio has a perfectly good clock, but a flaky backlight, so I can't always rely on that to see the time. Even when I'm surrounded by computers, microwaves, and wall clocks, I still like having the time on my wrist.
My main watch is a battery operated analog/digital (dual face) piece that I found in the corner, on the floor, when I was cleaning out the landlord's garage (because I'm the one who actually uses the garage). I replaced the band and battery and cleaned off some white paint and have worn it ever since. My backup watch is a battery operated analog watch that my mom got for free with her subscription to Time magazine. Neither of them will keep Swiss watchmakers in business.
I find GMI as the name of a curriculum confusing. GMI still makes me think of the school now known as Kettering University, but maybe I'm just an anachronism.
I started using CDDB in the mid-90s, but I don't know Steve Scherf from a hole in the wall. The name I associate with CDDB is Ti Kan, and even wikipedia lists Ti Kan as the inventor of CDDB. It doesn't say anything about Scherf being the "co-creator". IIRC, Ti Kan also had a really nice Audi Coupe Quattro that was featured in european car.
This article has been tagged with "terrorism." I can remember when people would hear this news and think not "terrorism," but "nutcase setting off a bomb."
I think I generally have around a dozen windows open at a time, and anywhere from 3 to 30 tabs open in my browser. In Windows I make the taskbar tall enough for the clock to show the date, which, depending on the version, is two or three rows tall. I generally fill a two row taskbar, and occasionally fill a three row taskbar. My PC at home usually stays on 24/7, but I close most windows before I leave the house. At work, I shut down the PC every night. The last thing I need is for someone to send out an email or browse a webpage or something from my computer when I'm away that'll get me in trouble. I could do a password-protected screensaver, but I don't.
I also have a Mac running OS X. I don't use it nearly as much as my Windows PC. It's not on as often, or for as long, so consequently I don't usually open more than about 1/2 dozen windows at a time on it.
I didn't see any mention of whether or not it has a GPS receiver. Any cell phone sold in the US is required to have a GPS receiver built in so they can track you, right? That could be one reason why this phone won't be sold in the US.
...so how are other people handling this? Going outside the traditional Valley/Route 128 corridors?
Seriously?
I live in Massachusetts, outside 128. It'd take some major amounts of money to get me to commute anywhere near 128.
Also, I don't work in IT. The closest I've come was a year-long stint selling computers at ComputerWorks in Middleton in 88-89. I learned BASIC on a PET in '77 and wrote my own programs to keep track of my paper route customers on a VIC-20 back in the day, but life lead me down a more mechanical path. I wouldn't mind working in IT, but any employer would have to invest in my training. It irks me to hear companies complain about a lack of IT candidates when they aren't willing to train anyone.
I don't care if it's a human monitoring the cameras or a computer; I just think it's wrong to have security cameras in public areas. They may be effective, but they're still wrong.
Why would the FDA not require vendors to label cloned foods? I just don't get that!
Of course, I want waxed produce to be labeled, too, but you can usually tell when fruit or veggies have been waxed, anyway. It's a floor wax...and a dessert topping!
I just figured it was another manifestation of the pathetic Apple fanboy inferiority complex, taking potshots at Microsoft at any and all opportunities (he writes as he scans ebay for deals on PowerMacs).
Or maybe he was referring to the Yamaha scooters?
All I know is that there's no way I'd share a waxy earbud with anyone else. I wouldn't even ask someone else to put on my supra-aural headphones.
I know I'm not typical, but I've abandoned TV, probably permanently (I haven't had a TV for a few years now). I almost never go to the theater, either, but I still rent movies from Netflix. Maybe the lesson George Lucas should have learned is to make *good* movies on a smaller budget. It's ridiculous that hit movies have to cost hundreds of millions of dollars. My guess is that too many people are involved and they're throwing too much money at special effects. Scale down the productions and let the story carry the movie instead of the effects.
Like I know more than George Lucas does about movies...
Will it really shame people, or will it validate their behavior when they see that other people commit the same transgressions as them?
Does my life insurance count as a dead man's switch? I don't have to check in on a regular basis, so maybe not...

What fun are international relations if we can't corrupt our neighbors to the north?

I was thinking that terrorism implies a trend, a series of events, but I'll defer to the dictionary. The dictionary definition is better, anyway.

That doesn't describe *anyone* I know!

They really are! And IE7 isn't worried about her flopping tits doing any phishing! No problems with adorable kittens, either. Was the OP Steve Jobs?

"Google also wants to build 10MW of green power..."
Green lasers? They're going to want sharks, too. Does anyone know how I can buy shark futures?
Do they realize they're copying this video from a month ago?

WTF?! Do they think the internet's a freakin' truck that they can just dump their sex or gaming sites on?!
