This is a prime example of why people should RTFA.

IMO, its not the smart kids. Its the kids that are motivated and put in the effort into doing something.
Sure, there is a certain amount of smarts required for those nifty inventions, those startling revalations and those 'hot damn why didn't I think of that' moments, but more often then not its about having the motivation. My sister who isn't too bright and barely grasps the concept of shared printers, got a UAI of 99.3, and was working 2 jobs, while studying at Uni. Me on the other hand, prefered to read slashdot and ended up working as telemarketer for a couple of months.
Motivation is what changes the world. Attitude is central to survival, not always intelligence.
This is a sign of the apocalypse. Forget the earthquakes, and the hurricanes, the wars and rumours of wars. Don't worry about the floods, droughts and famine. Aussie courts are making sense! The end is nigh!
Ogg is a mad format and I prefer it to mp3 but what about people who like to listen to their vast music collection on car stereos? I spend a lot of my 'off-the-computer-time' in the car driving obscenely long distances.
I have not seen a car CD deck that supports ogg, and to me, this would seem like one of the most important markets to break into. I dont want to re-encode all my oggs into mp3 just to I can here them again.
I think it would be a wise idea to put ogg in cars.
Cisco certainly has a large grip on the enterprise router market, 90% the article says.
Most of the time coporate bodies switch on price (or just fire more people) so good work 3Com.
When that article came up on/. I knew that more brands of routers need to hit the market and quickly.
With one company, you inherent all the faults of that company. With different companies coming up to play the game, you'd have vastly different gaps and holes.
Its all about moving away from the typical exploits.
Hmmm, I think posting late at night makes my sentences incoherent. Sorry guys.
I work for Solutions First in Australia, and all we recommend to our customers for their spyware problems are FireFox and Spybot SD, and the little known TDS-3 for more serious issues.
The mozilla suite have literaly changed the face of the internet for me. Not just pop up stoppers, or tabbed browsing, or it being free. It just cooler, something that IE won't have. How can MS compete with a name like Firefox? Or Thunderbird
In all honesty, it just shows that the better format doesn't always win. This can be linked very easily to the Ogg vs MP3 debate, the CD vs Vinyl war and the water colour vs Oil Pastels.
Ever wonder why Radio One DJs have big houses and lots of cars? Let's face it, it's not because they are talented.
Sounds like a load of tripe to me. Have you ever heard of the essential mix tour? With djs like Paul Van Dyk, Tall Paul, Judge Jules, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten.... The list keeps on going.
Why are these dj's rich? Cos they are so damn popular! How did they get popular? By being good!
IAAMP (am a music producer) and I find that if you want to perform really well at a nite club to get the crowd rocking, you give them what they want - its as simple as that. Supply and demand.
Think of the dance floor as a high maintenance lover. When you bring on the goods, you'll be rewarded well.
Now back to the subject. I can understand that you can use perl to create some interesting musical results. But instead of music being written by a persons creativity, its now a result of a script.
I dunno, I'm undecided on the issue, but it seems like a cop-out, rather than an advancement in the way the musicians write/create tunes.
The best way to perform for your lover is with V1@GrA - used by DJ's all around the globe.
I don't mind fueling the spam wars buy actually getting fake home/life/cat/dog/car insurance, but fueling this stupind SCO/Unix/Linux war is ridiculous!
However samy is my hero.
*crickets*
No?
I got nuthin...
If I got smacked about, I'd smarten up quick. I think most people would.
What the majority of kids need is discpline. I dont think ADD would be so rapant if they got caned every know and then.
Even though people say I have ADD and say Ritalin works I refuse to ......OOH! A shiny thing!!

Convert to the Call of Cthulhu while you can!
I used to ripp all my CDs straight to ogg, but seeing as I cant play ogg in my car, I've abandoned the idea.
Why no play the original CD's? I hear you say, because my car got broken into and they were all stolen.
Ogg's for cars would definiately be a great idea.
Then(tm) we(tm) can(tm) sue(tm) their(tm) nuts-off(tm).
I love patents!(tm)

Maybe its just me. But it looks like FireFox with some Longhorn UI added. :P
And what of the poor chicken at the other end? Will its butt expand to fit a watermelon?

But I'm a music producer, quality over novelty.
Edirol MA-20D's for me! Even though they are not any where near as good as the Yamaha NS10's.

On one hand, you can use this idea of the scripts creating wierd and wonderful melodies, but depending on the situation it may or may not work.
I would agree with you that is is far from a cop-out on the basis of that it can be a legitmate technique to derive vastly different riffs and themes.
For me, this is like trying to get a computer to paint. Can we create a program so powerful that is becomes creative?

Nobody likes a dj who can't dj.

Bring on the warez!
Its that simple. Download a demo of some music creation software, and have a go.
Thats what I did. I was sick and tired of the Top30 crap and just about everything on the radio, so I decided to make my own music.
On the way I found like minded people with similar tastes, and hey presto I don't need to deal with any of that RIAA crap.
