Fedora 7 Released

With respect you're an idiot. Fedora is NOT designed or distributed as a stable plateform with long term support, if you want that from a Redhat type install use Enterprise or CentOs. Fedora *is* however the cutting edge of Redhat development and I use it across all my (personal) servers and PCs/Laptops ungrading when nessesary.
The loss of his wife is likely to have a profound impact upon his work and any future development. I can only hope the community and the other developers are able to step up and carry on the work.
OOo doesnt have an email client, I find my email client is an email client and my office suite....well is never used....but would be used for typing etc.
OOo to me is just a polished as M$ latest offering, the exception is.doc compatability. Whilst OOo 2 does a very good job in this area its not quite foolproof. Using the open standards offered by OOo generally gives a far higher level of 'user satisfaction' IMHO.
The other area people may think OOo falls down is integration with other system tools, something M$ does well. But this is down to the structure of the software. M$ uses a common base whereas OOo (firefox, thunderbird etc) all stand much more alone.
That said I used office 10 years ago and it was painful, I'd much rather use OOo.
A Psion series 3. Not the later 3a or 3c the original. It came with three books bigger than it was, one for programming, one for day to day use, and one for the spreadsheet. OPL was the inbuilt programming language and was my number 1 language for quite a few years./me gets all misty eyed.
The 'automobiles' and PC's analogy just doesnt stand up. To use a car I have to demonstrate I can handle it and most things that im likley to come accross when using it.
In the UK at least drivers have to be proficient in the theory and practise of driving, but any idiot can own a PC.
I like to think of PC infection etc like getting pregnant. Yes accidents might happen but most people are bright enough to stop it. If someone does get knocked up (phished or virus infected) then the only deserve help and sympathy if they had taken sufficient steps to prevent it.
How do they get up there? Launches cost the same (almost) even tho you could lauch many more in one go.
What happens when they get hit by a piece of space junk?
The case in question was a little more complex. The couple where not poor, they where in fact quite wealthy. They where however elderly and obviously confused. British gas was negligent in not helping them and used the data protection excuse to try to remove responsibility. Also to aid the removal of data protection laws that limit what they would like to do with our information.
I read a lot (really a lot) on public transport I have an hour long journey through some pretty dodgy parts. If i show i have nice shiney gadgets Im liable to get mugged. However no one is going to steal my tatty paperback + the criminal scum dont read.
The large developer base responds quickly - gets things patched and released.
This coupled with the fact moz/firefox is already more secure than IE means Moz users are not invunerable but we have a better chance than the IE crowd.
Over here prices where set, but the big sellers got together and refused to stock a publishers books unless the let them set the price. A court case followed which the sellers won. I encourage Germans to ignore the rule and hope the law sees sense.
Oh yeah i just love cctv keeping an eye on me in the uk.
Everytime a pretty girl walks down the street i wonder if the camera is pointing at me or looking at her legs/ass/tits.
Everyone I know has been mugged, all have been mugged in view of cctv. My work go broken into two nights running, each time we had clear cctv images, the police didnt even collect the footage.
So please dont expect me to believe cctv makes any of us safer.

Im a huge fan of joe, I started using it on a 486 with my first linux install and still use it today but is this really front page news? Or is it just a slow news day?
I would never trust a computer voting system, even postal votes dont seem like a good idea. The problem (as i understand it) in the states come from the hanging chads etc that resulted in baby bush been in the whitehouse. Computer voting is been touted as *the* solution, but i would think that no matter how good this software was, putting a cross in a big box (like the UK and Europe) then having someone count the crosses is still the best solution.
Project Gutenberg (the first one) was fantastic, it allowed me to download books in lynx that i could read with joe on a 486 when i first got online. I read books that normally I would never pick up as well as downloading plays etc for research.
Paying for ebooks i have no problem with but why use the PG name that so may have come to associate with the free PG.
Even if they do put this on the front page...
" Project Gutenberg 2 is not affiliated with the Project Gutenberg Literary Archive Foundation and has received no funding, materials, or any other support from the Foundation. "
TV in the UK (and i assume the US) is by and large poor the internet lets you view material that meets your exact requirements rather than having to channel surf to find something that doesnt drive you crazy.
Games are just what PC literate people do when they are bored of the internet. I know lots of people read but im goin to make a gross generalisation here and say most techy people dont.
Google to a lot of people is the ONLY search engine. Its become a brand much more so than IE, or even (arguably) Windows. The phrases 'to google' and 'googling' are fast becoming part of the english language on both sides of the pond.
In order to google to keep getting the fat ad subs they live off it still needs to be number one. With IE it was just to eliminate the competition.
Im assuming from the posts already that cyber cafes in the US are like those in the UK and slowly going out of business as people get bband. However ive spoken to people i know about internet access in other countries and they seem to think cyber cafes are the way to go. A friend of mine wanted to set one up in spain and still thinks this is a good market, as is portugal, italy, and most of eastern europe. For those of you the other side of the pond, I know places like venezeula, Guatemala etc all want internet access, but u might have to watch out for the various local law enforcment

As you can post your complaint as you sit in the delay. Cant wait for Virgin to get this, I could invite the entire carridge to complain with me.
