Actualy, yes. I was hanging around in #space on freenode when this was happening. If you know the height the pictures were taken at, you can compute the curve of the section you are trying map your images onto. From there, it's just matching lines and projecting onto a curved surface that matches what'd you'd be seeing at that height. It's slightly more complicated than just stitching the pictures together, but it yeilds a LOT better of a result.

The situation you are refering too is a self corrective event. If, well rather when, it happens, it will only be temporary. Assuming the human species can survive it, the survivors will have every chance to pursure life, liberty, and screwing up the environment again.

The reason it seems that life "needs" special conditions to begin is that we've only seen one way it can/has happened. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the question of life elsewhere is still pretty much in the realm of the philosophic.

You are correct in saying that this isn't proof that there is life on other planets. The only proof of life on other planets would be just that, finding life on other planets (or asteroids, moons, coments, nebulae, who know's what will sustain "life" really?)

You are wrong, however, in your conclusion that the first bilogics were "quite fragile and would certainly 'die' in extreme environments."

Just look at the conditions on Earth when life first began. From what we unerstand, compared to the conditions now, life started out in an "Extreme" environment.

    Wait...

Just because the source for the work happens to be series of photographs instead of a series of sense impressions in some artists mind means that it's not animation?

Please, that's just the fanboy mentality that calls pen & inkers "tracers." It's demeaning to the work involved in the process. In pen & ink, the artist takes a base drawing and adds furthur dimension and artistic merit by applying his or her own style.

That's exactly what they animators (and yes, rotoscoping IS animation) are doing here, and you are doing them a diservice by belittling their work.

If you want to attack this film, there are plenty of other avenues to go down.
