Actually, Linux is a tool box: multiple screw drivers, wrenches, various cutting tools (saws, knives, wire-strippers), etc. Winders (yes, I call it names, the f'ing nazis can bite me) is more like the swiss army knife: lots of neato attachments which does a lot of things, but not a single one well.
Ya' know, one of the most notable 'cancer researchers' I can think of ended up writing Science Fiction (and not SciFi) for a living. Funny, my understanding is it amounted to what he (and from what I gather you) can manage some form of satisfaction from.
Oh, an kudos for what looks like a signature.
Then again, I've been drinking since 4pm EST......
The Unix philosophy: build tools which do one or a few things very well (and are trivial to develop, debug, and maintain) and build upon them.
I have yet to detect anything resembling a philosophy in the 'other' place. It seems to be build a single big-ass swiss army knife application (which doesn't seem to do anything very well).
From my email.signiture rotation (and undoubtedly taken from here):
"The Linux symbol is a cute cartoon penguin. For Microsoft, the symbol right now is a fat guy in a skintight butterfly suit. Which mascot is more appealing?"
Ummm, "Bart the Daredevil"? (Don't now the number....). 'course, it wasn't one of the main (or secondary) characters, and, if memory serves, there was also either a lion or a mountain lion (and a drop of blood) in the shark tank.
heh, not bad. Funny thing is I just recieved a confirmation of an interview. Only thing is, the salutation is to someone else, on a different date and time than already arranged, and for a completely unrelated position. So, you point out applicants are stupid, and I point out HR is stupid.
> Does this not perfectly describe the difference between "producer" and "consumer?"
Not sure. Having delved into many, many different areas of both modelling and model railroading, I kinda' find this completely mudding the border. In all honesty, I've been the 'consumer' of a considerable amount of brass and resin, yet I produce many things which give a great deal of satisfaction (for myself, at least). Maybe the the ultimate test would be if I started casting my own resin or set up a (C)NC mill for brass.....
Then again, maybe I had to much vodka tonight..... And it definitely beats the hell out of getting drunk *and* watching Celebrity Idiot Millionaire.
Although HO (1/87) rules (sorry no 133t speak for me), if you want the the biggest bang for the smallest space, I've some really cool stuff in Z scale (1/144???).
Like anyone else from this company would be any better? "But f you put truth and all the past Windows hype in the same room, you'd get a matter-antimatter explosion."
> I remember when it was Multimedia. Now it's open source. So why are we celebrating that IBM is using new hype words to motivate its workers?
Funny, I remember using Open Source (both the term and the actual solution) back before some dweeb was handing me a resume and saying it was 'multimedia' ("'cause I did it on the screen and made it come out on the printer." Riiiight).
I've only met a handful of people inside IBM. It may be remotely possible this may be part of their rah-rah speaches, but the people I've talked to at least have a clue about the differences between shit-n-shinola.
> Given that the annual income of HP is on the order of $87 billion, she only has to carry out changes that improve that figure by 0.1% to justify her income.
And what happens if her changes drive 'that figure' down by 0.1%?
yeah, interesting. Do some research on TSR and (I think) Flying Buffalo. For bonus points cross reference with the works of H.P. Lovecraft and (again, I think) Michael Moorcock. My opinion? The BHA computer.
But, yeah, Norse (and others, I'm sure) mythology *should* be public domain.
> Remember, folks. Managers never do anything wrong because they are in charge.
Correct, they do something wrong because they're sucking up to the C*O or VP of Incredibly Long String of Buzzwords.

Now, picture who would think of these kinds of people naked.
Granted, your post made me shudder. But I think I've made myself sick.
Having all the routers around you blocking what you send and recieve would accomplish, what exactly?
....to send me your dollar.

Well, here's my opinion, anyway.

Let me guess, you don't live near Detroit nor the Twin Cities.

Sounds like your client already thinks Linux is there.......
because it should be pascalally?

The same way any publication is independent of their advertising revinue? Don't tell me anyone is actually surprised by this.

Yeah, but it is how you sing, Bill.

I suppose only if he gets funding from The Canopy Group.

I probably found this on /. , but:
"Look up "derivative" in the dictionary and see if that reminds you of how MS describes their "innovation"."
