    You've obviously never listened to AM/FM radio or 8-track/cassette tape. AAC or AptX really aren't bad, unless you're one of those who spends $2500 on a power cord. Or perhaps you're simply exaggerating.

    Do tell. Since you're someone who considers Bluetooth audio to be "TERRIBLE," what sort of phase jitter is present with multiple Ethernet endpoints?

    It's the Chromecast which has the 3.5 mm headphone jack, which is also usable for line level audio. Use whichever commonly available cable you need to hook up to powered speakers - a 3.5 mm jack is common there, too.

    They're already following automakers - edge-to-edge screens and thinness are the modern equivalent of late 1950's tail fins. It's all about some sort of "style" pissing match, function and practicality be damned.

    Miracast is at least an "industry standard", albeit not open, instead of being completely proprietary.

    But where's the upset about government agencies (e.g. police) using Stingrays to intercept cell phone calls? Which, BTW, is already illegal (but ignored) since they transmit on licensed frequencies.

    Just stop f'ing subsidizing stuff. The end result is always uneconomic, unintended consequences. And, "American cheese" just sucks, anyway. If they're going to build a cheese bank, make it aged Cheddar or Colby or Gouda (IMHO).

    That would be like selling "unlimited" service to someone, and then limiting it when they exceed a threshold. Or selling a "$40/mo" service, then adding fees which make it $60.

    Yep. If they're not government mandated, and they're not optional, they're not separate "fees," they're part of the basic price.

    Perhaps Comcast customers should simply pay their bill, minus "accounting, postage, processing and handling fees" equal to Comcast's "fees."

    So, half the "pull" traffic is fake. So is half the content, but WaPo doesn't seem concerned with that (no, it's not a Trumpian comment, it's just that WaPo was quoted, and they're definitely not without bias).

    The only real problem is that many people can't reason for themselves, so can't (or won't spend the effort to) spot the difference between real and fake (or fact and biased opinion, in more accurate terms). They get what they deserve, but unfortunately, everyone else pays for their ignorance.

    ITYM 40 years, because that's how long that story has been spun . Tech can be a useful adjunct, same as a library. But it does nothing to actually educate. Setting someone down in the Library of Congress doesn't educate them, despite the volume of knowledge present. Medium vs. content.

    If you're a "smartphone app developer," and can't save enough to feed yourself when you're in between jobs, you're not very good at it and should look at changing careers. And, if your're a "smartphone app developer," the cost of a smartphone is simply an associated cost - no different than a mechanic needing tools.

    But, you've devolved into trying to create a straw man. Won't work. A smartphone is simply not a need unless you stretch logic to create one. By your logic, I "need" a billion dollars to live the life I want.

    Yes, a phone is still a "want." You're begging the question. There are plenty of jobs which don't require having a phone. If you want a job which requires a phone, the phone is bundled with that "want." And, you say it as if there aren't basic phones available, whether landline, VoIP, or basic cellular "feature phones." A smartphone is a "want," even for a job where you need a phone.

    Just because you're not smart, doesn't mean your phone has to be.
