Of course a computer class changes much more often, though the basics (and that's what you want) change much less often. Keep the basics and update hardware specs and you have everything you need.

If what you want is a programming course, you could take a look at the python programming language. It's easy to learn the syntax and quite powerful. Also, there are many free (and good) textbooks available online, like the Python tutorial itself and Dive Into Python

Maybe you should look forward to the many options around that feature PC104 connections, which has been an industry standard for a while.

I remember seeing a vendor which used to provide Linux SBCs with this interface, and even accessories for it. I don't remember the site right now, but I think it still was cheaper than the BUG, though it didn't have a good-looking external shell like the BUG.

    - you're only coding in one language. I'm involved in a project where I have to code both python (I use PyDev) and C++ (through SWIG), but it appears that when I setup a project, I'll be stuck with the feature of only one of them. In my case, I have a PyDev project but when I open a .cpp file, even though Eclipse does support some features like syntax highlighting, it does not provide me with autocompletion or integrated debugger for both languages.

There seems to be something missing from your post.
It's not only about dedication, it's also about being able to use what one has already bought.
Recently I bought a laptop. In a fresh install, I found that the multimedia keys don't work, the sound card works suboptimally, the card reader doesn't work and the embedded webcam just worked after waiting two months for an experimental driver (and now works with low image quality).
A previous laptop I have worked with couldn't suspend, I had to make some wizardry to make the advanced video stuff (like TV-Out) work, the wifi didn't work (I had to wait some months too for an experimental driver that crashes a lot), the fingerprint scanned still doesn't work... and the list goes on.

Note: all the experimental drivers I mentioned were created only by trying to reverse engineer the ones that the manufacturer supplies. THAT really is dedication, without mentioning a lot of work done just so the developers won't be sued for DMCA or other nonsense stuff.

  11. The reason behind Brazil's price on The iPod International Currency Index · · Score: 0

Of course we brazillians have a very expensive iPod. There are maaany reasons why this happens.
    1. Taxes: the iPod is an imported good. Most imported goods here have a 60% tax. Yes, that's right 60% of tax just to import it. After that, all states have a tax over trading and services, which range from 13% to 17% over the value of the good. So, on arrival (through legal ways) the iPod already can have 77% just of taxes. Add to that the profits that retailers want and you have doubled the price.

    2. Low market: retailers have a hard time selling the iPod around. First because they're very expensive. Then you don't have people actually wanting to pay for each song downloaded. It's just cheaper to buy a cheap MP3-player/pendrive smuggled from somewhere like taiwan and then use your favorite P2P app to download "free" music.

    3. No one is selling: for my entire life, I think that I've seen one, maybe two, Apple stores here. Anyway, the ones that are around usually make even Macs too much expensive to buy (I have seen only one running too). Yes, there are some big retail stores that sell it too (mostly only the nano) but it's around 4 to 5 times the price for other players.

    4. There's no hype here: yeah, that's right. The only time I've seen the iPod on TV is in some (rare) tech shows and in commercials for stores using it as free gifts. It's just not raised to pop star level like in some other countries.

Non-admin use of windows can be quite useful when running Windows in a company/corporate environment, as the admin is able to give or take permissions from the users. This is specially true as the support team has a fixed portrait of what a user has or not in his/her computer, which is quite useful as the average user does not install (voluntarily or not) any software that is not approved by the admin team. However, that type of restriction can be quite a pain if one wants to install this OS in a home desktop system. There are some causes to that: 1) the average user does not understand thoroughly the admin/normal user scheme used; 2) some (not many really) manuals take notice that this scheme can be in place, but usually just say "You have to be an Administrator" or something like that, failing to say HOW to be an Administrator; 3) to get Admin privileges in Windows is slow (at least the way I know how to do it), you have to switch users and do what you want, instead of just using su or sudo without having to close/switch the session, this forward-backward motion usually takes time that the average user does not want to lose if all he wants to do is install a small tool; 4) many people complain that the computer or connection is slow, but does not even know what a malware is or how to prevent it, believe, the best way to avoid that stuff is education; 5) there are some people that know that they have malware installed and don't worry about that... I know some that even access bank sites in that condition. Note that by "average user", I mean the people-out-there, who use the computer just as a tool, unlike most people here on /. which just prefer a better OS, or who at least know how to handle that kind of problem on their own. Anyway, although I have dualboot in case I have to use some esoteric software, I do not take this OS very seriously, so take my advice with a truckload of salt.
