In my case it depends on the music.
First, it has to be some I know really well. Listening to unfamiliar music requires too much attention.
Some kind of music, even if familiar, still tend to require more than I can afford. I cannot hear Chopin in the background without giving it proper attention for example.
Ideal case is an energetic, upbeat series of tunes I know really well and appreciate at a low level of sound, until I need my full concentration on a tough task. By then I stop the music to concentrate entirely on it.

The convenience of using XBMC or emulators, then switching off the modchip to play on xbox live are a thing of the past as far as the X360 is concerned. A real pity.

    Seriously.

Having played a number of MMO betas in chinese language, due to the fact they were the only versions available on the planet besides korean, I do recommend such option for players looking forward to learn the language.
Even more helpful would be to play a chinese version of a game you already know in english version, so you have a working knowledge which would make your first steps easier.

Examples : RF Online, Granado Espada (aka sword of the new world), etc ..

A ceveat though, would be the recent and very annoying trend from companies to dictate that all other licencee companies exploiting a particular MMO restict their player's access by country IP. Even though the MMO maker itself never intended so.
This is very annoying and should not be allowed to be, it may force you to look for a proxy service in the country where the servers are located.

Insightful post, I would just argue about the non-obviousness comment.

It seems non-obvious for people accustomed to the PC (for games), and mostly Windows' (for the OS) tendancy to lag when under load.

A console game will usually have a solid 60 fps throughout the experience.
A PC MMO will stutter and break responsiveness when loading data, even on dual core machines.

Windows will just freeze, stutter, lose focus, be unresponsive as soon as it feels you're doing a bit too much or too quick, while BeOS will still be 100% responsive to you, the user.

Being unresponsive is the 'norm' and accepted behaviour of Windows/PC users, and as such, PC programmers are making no efforts to correct it.

That doesn't mean other programmers don't resent that and strive to do what should rightfully be : responsivity to the user at all times.
