With a few exceptions, they have pretty much lost their meaning. Few countries seem to have restrictions on the use of their suffix (Faroe Islands being one).

Suffixes still serve a valuable purpose. They allow us to identify hosts using DNS, pretty handy if you ask me. There may be a better way of doing it but I haven't seen one. mail.mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com could be different servers and so prefixes are handy and reliable.

The only suffixes that are no-brainers would be www and ftp if they're all handled by the same host. We'll know by the port numbers anyway.

Cobblers, that argument is tired and over-used. Taking WoW as an example, if you share an account with someone then you are breaking the terms of use (power-leveling is not legitimate). If you buy gold or items then you are buying gold or items - not the time spent by someone to acquire them.

Larger businesses shouldn't be so bad off (since the firewalls should protect the users from casual intrusions) but unless the IT department is up to speed, their users are still going to find it alarmingly easy to install malware. Networks are going to have to locked down pretty tight to stop those office PCs from becoming bots.

No need to do anything else, just make sure they have the magic if IT and everything will work perfectly.

As teachers sat there wondering how on earth they can actually use the computers to make a difference, the books in the library continued to age and the holes in the roof got bigger. I get the impression that IT has become an ideology for some people as opposed to a set of tools.

If we rely on gods for rights then we are truly boned. What would the bronze-age god of war know about modern human rights anyway, he's far to fond of encouraging genocide, rape and strange hairstyles. The only thing it has going for it is its stylish hardware and huge marketing campaign.
